ReRide: Trade In, Strap In and Shred.

ReRide.co.uk was conceived out of the aprés ski bars of La Tania in the French Alps last season. An all night meeting ensued and a revolutionary online snowboarding concept was born.

Currently, Reride.co.uk is the only online snowboard shop to offer a trade-in-your-old-board service when buying a brand new board. By operating in an online only capacity, they have the ability to stick to their mantra of providing high levels of customer service, keeping it simple and being as environmentally friendly as is possible; according to Russell Waddell, ReRide’s co-creator.
“The trade-in service came out of the idea of reuse - if something still has a use then it shouldn’t be thrown away, or even recycled - reuse is better than recycling. In a sport that relies so much on climate and weather, we think that anything we can do to reduce carbon emissions and halt climate change is a must.” He added.

For those reasons, they choose to stock brands that also have a strong environmental ethos - Arbor, for one, make their boards from wood from sustainable forests, bamboo and castor beans.
“As well as going with Arbor, who are all about eco-friendly snowboard construction, we’ve gone for brands whose gear lasts season after season. Gear that lasts means less energy is spent making a new board for that person each year. Never Summer snowboards and Union bindings are perfect in this sense as they not only make good equipment, but it’s bombproof!”

ReRide is run by Nathan Amery and Russell Waddell, two ex-season workers with five seasons as ski technicians under their collective belts who know exactly how to bring a board back to as good as new. “I worked as a ski tech for a small, independent ski & snowboard shop in Queenstown one season. They did second-hand gear, but I could see that there was scope to do so much more” said Nathan.

They service all the boards that get traded in and sell them on - often to newcomers who don’t want to spend a fortune on a new board. “We like the idea that someone’s old board can help bring someone new to the sport. Because we service all the boards that come through us, our used boards come with not only an assurance that they’re ready to ride straight away, but also a level of trust and guarantee that you’re able to return them if something’s not right. Something you generally don’t get when buying a snowboard from eBay, for example.”

“Some of the boards that get traded in with us are not old, but have lacked some love and attention over the seasons. They often need a fair bit of TLC to get them up to standard, something which we take great pleasure in doing.”
“An edge sharpen, wax and a clean of the top sheet is the minimum we do, but often there’s core shots to be filled, scratches on the base, plus we fill chips in the top sheet with epoxy. We try to get the boards looking as close to new as possible and ready for their new owners to enjoy.”

They're also huge fans of the Arbor range, especially the Element RX. “Arbor have really got the rocker thing right with this board – I love mine, especially for the old-school surfboard look it has going on” says Nate.
