Catch up with Rowan B!

Rowan Biddiscombe is one of the most multi-tasking, multi-talented guys in the UK snowboard industry. We picked him up on an Austrian street corner, hitch-hiking home from the UK Industry snowboard test. In exchange for the ride, he took us to his favourite eatery (Burger King, Innsbruck), and shared with us the man behind the face of Rowan Biddiscombe. Sponsored by Ride Snowboards, Electric Goggles, FBBB and Moog Royale. Rowan isn't just an immense rider - he also DJ's, makes movies and mixes tunes too. And that's not all. We introduce to you, Mr Rowan Biddiscombe.
Name: Rowan Biddiscombe
Age: 23
Nationality: English
Years Riding: About 6-7... Who knows!
Sponsors: Ride Snowboards, Electric Goggles, FBBB, Moog Royale Clothing, LXV Headwear.

Kaz: How Did You Start Riding?

Rowan: Funny story actually... I've been into most extreme sports since a pretty young age, started out rollerblading (don't judge!) and then moved on to skateboarding at about the age of 14-15. I'd always seen snowboarding on the TV but my family weren't particularly sporty so I never got to go. Then, one year, my Mum decided to buy my Dad snowboarding lessons for Christmas. Naturally I was devastated, my Dad was cooler than me... So, I waited a year and then begged and begged to be allowed the same privilege the next Christmas, and luckily for me, the wish was granted! The following week my Nan took me down to Bracknell for my first ever lesson (on dendex) and the rest is history...

Since then I've smashed out a total of five proper Winter seasons, and a Summer/Winter in NZ too. The list in order of occurrence goes: Meribel, Les Deux Alpes, NZ, Mayrhofen, Mayrhofen, Tahoe USA.

Without a shadow of a doubt I'm a park/street rider. Don't get me wrong, I'm no pow hater, I just grew up skateboarding with tricks and stuff, it's what I know best! I think as I get older though and the big jumps start to look bigger, and the rails start to look longer, I get the feeling like powder will start to look more and more appealing... I'll keep you posted on how that's working out

Kaz: We know you like fast food. What's your most recommended BK meal?

Rowan: Yeah, the word on the grapevine is that I like my fast food... This is indeed a fact. You can't even begin to imagine the amount of burgers/chicken wings/pizzas/ribs etc etc I ate whilst in America last season, I'll be surprised if I live to see 50! Haha, on a serious note though, I do eat fairly poorly, but at the same time, my life is jam packed (geddit?) with exercise so surely it's not all bad??

Right-o, without further ado, my top three fast food choices...

1. Burger King: XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger Meal, king size, with a chocolate milkshake and plenty of barbecue sauce on the side... Why? It's the only burger to come plain, ie without salad or anything as standard. You don't make friends with salad.

2. KFC: 3 Piece variety meal, large, with an extra mini fillet on the side. Why? You get literally TONNES of meat, for a pretty reasonable price. Try to trade the rubbish chips for an extra bit of chicken though, always a bonus...

3. Dennys: Pretty much anything from this place is amazing, the good old fast food on a plate trick. Yes, I know what your thinking, that sounds just like Wimpy right? WRONG. Wimpy is rubbish, Dennys is great. End.

Kaz: Tell us about your filming, music and what camera do you use?

Rowan: Yes I am a bit of a keen bean when it comes to filming, I think you've got to be these days though, being sponsored is all about promoting the companies you ride for, and what better way to do that than to get the camera rolling and capture some snow stunts for everybody to see?

I've recently upgraded to a Canon 550d, it's definitely the right move, I really like the customization options. HOWEVER. Don't buy this camera expecting video to come out amazing with no fiddling around, I quickly learned that there is more to video than just record and stop... You've got aperture, white balance, frame rates, iso, exposure all to be taken care of before you can even thinking about lining up your perfect shot... Auto mode just doesn't cut it anymore.

Music? I love it. First ever purchase? Special order of the 'Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground' single. Damn, Jay Kay is a badman...

I've been djing for a good 4-5 years now on and off, mainly focussing on the tracks I play, rather than the wizardry of turntable manipulation. I don't really confine myself to any specific genre either, I'm just as at home playing reggae on a beach in Holland as I am mashing it up with some dubstep and drum&bass at the mighty Gasthoff Zillertal in Mayrhofen. I've actually got a section on the website www.rowanb.com where I'll be posting up fairly regular mixtapes/playlists of music I particularly enjoy, definitely worth a look if you're interested in hearing some new choons!

Pretty sure I've run out of interesting things to talk about so, I think i'll wrap this up.

Ah ok, here's an ender. Something most people don't know about me: I've never tried tea or coffee, and never plan to...

Thankyou and goodnight!

Stay Rad.
