Animal snow camps - Pila

With just 6 weeks left until the Animal Snow Camps hit Pila, Italy, we're counting down the days and hours til we not only get to enjoy the fresh powder, but also get to stoke our riding up a few levels. The Animal Snow Camps give you high-quality snowboard tuition programmes where every snowboarder comes back with new tricks in their personal bag of tricks, accomplishments they never dreamed of, and a whole pack of new riding buddies.

The Animal Snow Camps have avalanched across Europe and Japan, and are like a building snowball – getting bigger and better every time. New riders gather with the old, leaving a whole load of riding styles mixing with professional riders. Over the years I've been taught on camp by Johno Verity, Dom Harington, Steve Addicott, Sonia Shaw and Kate Foster, all who have injected their own riding knowledge into us, and left me with something I'll never forget. And the Pila camp will be no different.

As every rider knows, Italy has been punished with powder already this season, and it just keeps coming. Pila lies in the Valle D'Aosta in Italy, just an hour from Turin, with epic views stretching from Mont Blanc through to Monte Rosa. There's 70km of piste awaiting Steve's technical on-piste training (on day one we usually do 180s and 360s, then step it up from there!), plus there's plenty of off-piste awaiting some hikes, pillow playing, cliff drops, wind lips and standard powdery frolicking which come standard on the Animal camps.

On top of powder and pistes, there's the Slopestyle Zone, with snow park features for all levels. As well as playing around in piste and pow, Animal Snow Camps hit up the snow park, and will take advantage of the kickers (ranging from 3 metres to 17 metres!), and boxes and spines. Backside boardslides were being thrown down on the boxes on our last camp, so looking forward to seeing what else we can find. There's also a four-seater chairlift in the park, so no long drags or hiking as you find in most snow parks!

The camp base is the Hotel La Chance, a converted barn right in the resort, so not only is it an easy ride home, but apres is at your fingertips. But as Steve keeps reminding us, this isn't Butlins, it's the Animal Camp, so after 7 hours hitting up the slopes all day, your limbs can be rested in the sauna and jacuzzi at the hotel too.

We're so stoked about hitting up the Italy camp. The camps in France, Austria and Japan have been insane, but with Pila in Italy the home town of our coach Steve Addicott, we know he'll be showing us the best cat tracks to clear, the most hidden powder, and the best tree lines. As the hidden gem of Italy, Pila manages to avoid the crowds, so we can safely count down the days to some perfect spring riding with the Animal Crew, and once again improve our riding in one of the best locations worldwide. Bring it on!
