Slope is great and the other amenities are sufficient.

My biggest gripe was with one of the equipment loan guys who was rude and generally condescending. Worst of all, one of our party had decided she wanted to learn to ski. She was being fitted with skis and boots and during the setup for the boots/bindings she was asked her height and weight. She is overweight and sensitive about it; once she had disclosed her weight to the attendant he gave a sharp intake of breath and said "wow, that's heavy" and later commented that she was the heaviest person he'd ever fitted for. My friend took the boots while fighting the tears that were obviously welling in her eyes. I vowed that if I ever see him in the car park he will be discovering what the edge of a snowboard tastes like.

We live closer to Halifax's dry slope so I think we'll go there from now on.
Strengths
Good slope and surrounding shops. Close to "freeport" for new undies when the snow ends up down the back of your pants (cough, not from exprience of course) ; )
Weaknesses
Staff in the loan shop need serious attitude adjustment.

Cas Xscape is a fairly good place to go and ride. I go there regulary (proabably 2-3 times a week) and have very little bad to say about it. All the staff are friendly and willing to help and slope is always in a decent condition considering how many people ride it in one day. However the park nights can be a little disapointing with the setup usually being poor and the slope being over-crowded.

Strengths
Friendly Staff
Its Snow
Good condition if you go at the right time
Weaknesses
No where to hangout
overcrowding

I must admit this is my only experience of boarding anywhere, but it seemed fairly good to me. I've watched my brother learn at Tamworth, and this seems much better, no nasty turn halfway down the slope, which is a great bonus when you're still learning.

The first few lessons were good, the nursery slope is a great benefit, as it keeps you away from the experienced riders, and stops you getting dangerously fast before crashing into the net at the end.

Just been for my first unaccompanied session, and unfortunately the slope was far more icy than it had been on the lessons (lessons - Monday, first session - Wednesday). Either way it became fairly quiet after 9:30, great if you're just starting out.

Only gripe is that it was very icy on the Wednesday session, to the point where my friend hit a nasty icy bump and fell on his arm, breaking his wrist. Fair enough, you need not to land on your wrist, but that was still a fairly rude awakening after 6 hours of lessons.

All in all, would recommend this slope over what people have told me about dry-slopes and Tamworth (bendy).
Strengths
Long for an indoor snow slope
Up North
Weaknesses
Poma lifts bruise your leg because they're designed for skiers...
Ski lessons, can get in the way for ages because they insist on going in convoy..

Not going to add too much to what's been said below. Only thing I'm gonna say is GO LATE!!! It's open 'til 11 and after 9.30 it's a lot less crowded (plus the boarders are comfortably in the majority, the kickers and ramps are open and there's v little traffic on the roads ). Went at 8.30 for the first time last night (March 04) and spent most of the time queueing for the lifts and avoiding irritating kiddy ski-team sh*ts.

One other thing. You're supposed to book in advance. The slope has a capacity of 250. Phoning is a lottery - can take an age to answer. The web site design is apalling making booking on line a pain too. Just turn up on the night - If it's full, you'd have had a gash night anyway.

Only other thing I'd add is that in my opinion it's not really worth learning there. Maybe as a try run for someone unsure about doing a boarding holiday, but being realistic you only get an hour at a time, it costs an arm and a leg and the quality of instruction I had over 5 lessons varied hugely. I think I'd have got a lot more from one morning's instruction in a resort. If you want to board but can't afford a holiday then fine, learn at Cas. Otherwise save it for the holiday and blow the money you'd have saved on a decent pair of gloves for when you go away!
Strengths
Great place at the right time, lots of real snow, good vibe, nice staff.
Weaknesses
Busy periods are a pain in the behind, learners use the main slope too (badly!).
Quality of instruction is variable.
Going late leaves you stoked up and unable to get to sleep 'til the wee hours!

Went there yesterday for about the 4th time. The snow is quite good, and the slope is a reasonable length compared to most dry slopes. There is a suprisingly large amount of room but this is restricted by the people at the slope closing down large areas of the slope with the netting used to block off the ramps.

It is a tremendous slope really as it gets you in the mood for going riding on proper slopes.

The slope is designed mainly for beginners but there are also quite a lot of intermediates (and better) who go there.

There are a number of weaknesses which could do with ironing out. I've already mentioned the net barriers but there are no real restrictions on who goes on, and I saw a rider yesterday go flying down the slope under very little control and very nearly wipe out a little girl. There was no control at all from the staff. The next is that the rubber mats at the top of the slope are virtually free of snow, so it comes as a bit of a shock when you come to a sudden stop, it only need a bit of snow throwing over.

However having said it's a great place just to get yourself back in the routine of riding and I think it's probably better midweek.
Strengths
Real snow
size of slope (width)
separate nursery slope
relatively effective lifts
fairly accessible
Weaknesses
Flat light half way down, but seemed to be a bit better yesterday
Too many obvious complete beginners with NO control
