| Review Detail |
Having played amped to death (and still kneeling at its alter and praising its almighty rule) I returned and gave Transworld another airing recently. To compare it to amped is a bit harsh really cos basically Amped pisses all over it from a great height indeed, I would definitely recommend Amped over this anyday. Having said that, TWS is not without it's merits. The graphics are very nice, nice big sprites to represent the boarders and the scenery is also very good. The soundtrack is ok, mainly more commercial style rock/hip-hop etc than the underground stuff you'd find on Amped, but it's still better than Sean Paul or some other crap! I think my main gripe with the game is that Firstly, you cannot create yourself in this game, you have to be one of the pro's. There is a good selection of them with the likes of Kevin Jones, Tina Basich, Jussi Oksanen and Andrew Crawford perfectly rendered. You also don't get to choose what they wear or more importantly the board they ride until you unlock them and even then you only have 1 or 2 more. Secondly is the gameplay, basically you have to perform certain tasks in order to open up new levels, some of which I find very silly indeed. Asking you to do things like set your board on fire and smash church steeples, I mean c'mon!! It's all a bit too Shaun Palmers for my liking, ridiculous!! But then I am a stickler for accuracy and realism and I think that makes this game a bit of a turnoff for me, however if that's your thing then you'll surely dig this. The controls are easy to master and the scoring system makes a lot of sense, you only rack up high scores if you land the trick perfectly. But even if you manage that it does seem awfully hard to rack up massive scores (100,000+) to pass some of the tasks.
Overall, a reasonable game, I wouldn't pay top whack for it but it's worth £15 in a sale of anyones money. In a choice between this and Amped it's gotta be Amped. If you are desperate to buy a snowboarding game you still may be best off waiting for Amped II which is out 14th Nov 2003. |

| Strengths |
Really good big graphics of the snowboarders/scenery
Sensible scoring system
Lots of different mountains to ride |
|
| Weaknesses |
Some of the tasks are a bit too silly for my liking (i'm a stickler for realism though)
Seems really difficult to rack up high scores
Limited to being a pro as no option to create yourself
Limited boards to ride/can only choose to ride boards that the Pro rides |
