The most Robo-cop looking shorts I could find. They look like they have far more padding than almost any other impact short I've looked at. Hard pads or soft, take your pick, personally I've just left them all stuck on.

Looked at buying these about 2 years ago, but I tugged the 'pull up' loops on a shop pair and managed to rip the waist band off. Had another look this year and they seem to be of far better construction.
Strengths
Very good protection
Thick Pads
Removable Hard Pads
Weaknesses
Difficult to get on (honest, it's not that I'm just fat...)
Do feel a bit restrictive once their in place, hoping they will 'give' more with more use.
Still have a little niggle in my mind after pulling a pair apart by hand a couple of years ago...

Roces - good shorts but a woefully inadequate in the padding stakes compared to the reds

I thought these shorts were amazing!

They have soft and hard padding whch you can remove if you wish (I just left them on) Have 2 tug areas at the sides to help pull them up and down.

Have Protection for hips thighs and coccyx.
Strengths
Protect in all the right places. When I fell I hardly felt anything. I learnt to ride with no shorts and when I used these I wished I started wearing these from day one. Biggist strenght was the fit of them and once on could hardly feel them.
Weaknesses
1st couple of times putting them on was a bit tough but once worn them they were fine.

I started looking for these out of season and had a nightmare finding the right size. (I'm real skinny!) When I found them on BT I snapped them up, you could probably find them slightly cheaper. After having a couple of very nasty spills I decided to see whether they were worth the money.
Strengths
They do work. They won't stop bones breaking but it does cover the bits that get smacked about as you learn.
They're slim fit, so they won't make your a$$ look like an Americans, at least any more than boarding trousers do.
Weaknesses
For a bloke, too tight a fit might make it hot and uncomfortable, but then I'd rather be slightly warm than nursing a shattered coccyx!

Looked at the Dainese shorts but wasn't big on the mesh, though it may be more "breathable".

Fell on my ass on a stone in Val'D and decided when I got home that a pair of these was the way forward. They are excellent, you can fall pretty hard and recieve much less damage to the coxicks, and they keep your butt warm if you need to sit in the snow! You can still hurt your back if you fall though to the side and jar the whole thing
Strengths
Good protection to coxicks and hips
Weaknesses
Make a visit to the loo a bit of a drama

Review Detail
After learning to board without these shorts, the benefits were clear the next time I went and did have them - I could sit comfortably in the car on the way home, no painful coccyx and no bruises on my hips. I had some quite heavy falls as well, as I'm still only a beginner, and I was surprised that the shorts managed to protect me so well because they don't look as padded as they evidently are.
Strengths
- Lightweight, but offer lots of protection
- Very comfy, I didn't notice I was wearing them.
Weaknesses
- Can't think of any.
