a pretty good pair of impacts for the price. nice snug fit, no sweating, and reasonably well placed pads!
Strengths
light, breathable, and good hard padded areas.
Weaknesses
could have some more padding around the coccyx!

I also think they do the job. My other half and I wore them for a week and had no bad experiences so we also just assume they did the job!

I am yet to try them in the park so can comment to much there.
Strengths
not too bulky
well made

Having had a week away with my fair share of falling over in treachourous conditions, and returning with no aches or bruises I can only assume they did a job. Quite comfy to wear, you forget you've got them on but if your boarding pants dont have much room to spare in the hip department, make sure you try before you buy cos they add a bit of extra bulk around your hips / arse area!

I will say that I think guesto is being a bit harsh on them in his review, expecting a bit of EVA foam to protect against a rail is probably being a bit hopeful. For general stuff on the slopes I think they are great, but if you seriously want top protection when launching yourself at sharp and solid objects like rails etc, then I think you'd need to look at the more expensive hard protection shorts that Dianese etc do.
Strengths
Comfy, cheap, lightweight, protects your coxxyx (sp?)
Weaknesses
Probably not the ultimate protection product available

I settled on the Optimum's because I looked at all the other options and couldnt decide. One guy in one shop would cuss the Dianese, another guy in another shop would cuss the Red and so on... Eventually I got fed up and just bought something, which just happened to be these.

So far I have only worn them once at MK snozone, nice and comfy - until you fall over! Next to no padding and absolutely none any where you would actually want it. "Who falls on the outside of their thigh anyway" I thought looking at where all the padding is.

So ten mins later I came of the side of the rail and tw*tted my hip bone on the metal rail. The result? Pain, lots of. Honestly couldn't say that the shorts saved me at all.
Strengths
Can hardly feel like you are wearing them!
Weaknesses
when you fall over, you can hardly feel like you are wearing them!

After looking at all the available options, Dainese impact shorts, Red impact shorts, I decided I wasnt gonna pay £69+ quid for a pair of shorts..

I looked around and found another option.. the optimum matrix short..

first question... who the hell are optimum..?

heres what I found..

Optimum Sport, are renowned for there protective rugby wear. They launched a brand new range of innovative protective gear specifically for mountain bikers and snowboarders sometiime last year.

second question.. are they any good

well found out that the hard way on saturday.. landed full on.. on my coxix... would have been nasty.. but im fine..

nice pair of shorts when all said and dun,, couldn't even feel that I had them on..

great for those falls on the hard flatts..good to wear all day..
if your in the park tho you might need something more substantial
