Excellent slope. The terrain is 'lumpy' as there's a giant fun box with a kicker on it (a nice jump for the boarders and bladers, a bit of variety for the skiers) as well as moguls, a smaller funbox near the bottom and a big quarterpipe. Much better than the standard flat, shallow Dendix hills most slopes use.
Even better than Xscape.
Only real negative was that the Poma-style lift was shut so only a Briton button lift (iwth the button down by the knees) was operational. |

| Strengths |
Snowflex surface
Varied slope- funboxes, kicker, QP, moguls
Decent pub |
|
| Weaknesses |
The decent lift was not in ue and the button lift was really uncomfortable
Short-ish run |

This dryslope is easily the best in the UK, probably in that case it is the best in Europe (even maybe the WORLD!). When I say dryslope I mean taking into account a number of factors. For a start, the advanced rider has to look at the kicker there, easily the best feature of the slope and the biggest kicker in the UK. This has to be the main 'pull' element, especially when you consider that Sheffield doesn't even have a kicker, only giant tabletops. Halifax also has a nice small funbox to the right of the slope (looking downwards) for learning tricks on, and a tabletop next to the kicker, ideal for learning spins on. The top 2 jumps have a great steep fast run-in, which gradually gradients to a less steep section where the beginner lift is. This means that it is easy to get the speed that you want to hit the kicker. There is also a 10ft, steep drop-in above this for the really advanced which means that the kicker can boot you 20ft+ into the air. The only thing I would warn you about the kicker is that it has a tendency to boot you higher than it does long, so you need a bit extra speed to make it to the landing. Apart from the jumps there is a mogul run on the lefthand side at the end of which is the 10ft quarterpipe on the SIDE of the slope. This means if you don't get your angles right you WILL come off the end of it as it stops without sloping downward. This is how one of the skiers broke his neck as he was going too fast and overshot it. On the main slope there are also little bumps and undulations to make the riding more exciting.
Features over with, the slope has 2 lifts, a Briton Button and a Briton Highline, which is the bigger faster lift, like the one at Sheffield (not the T-Bar). The slope also has a pub (the Sportsman Inn) and a 'Charlie Fastrax' play thingy with all those foam blocks and ball-pools. There is also a balcony from which you can see the slope and is a good place to take photos. Equipment hire is good, 2 English pounds for board and boot hire and the slope have recently got in a new line of boards. The slope is open every day, but give them a ring before you set off. Erm... anything else? Oh, they use a new FlexiCard system now which is 2 pound and then you put money on to the card and swipe through a turnstile. As you're on the slope the money is taken off your card until you swipe off. Put 25 on and you get 10 quid free. Put 50 on you get 25 free. Other than that, there's nothing more to say other than to get your arse off that computer seat and go down there!
Ciao! |

| Strengths |
01 - Sickest kicker in UK & the biggest too with great landing and run-in
02 - Snowflex
03 - Great people there
04 - Good for all abilities
05 - Not too big so there's a nice community atmosphere
06 - Cheaper than SSV
|
|
| Weaknesses |
01 - Quarter pipe is at an awkward angle at side of the slope and is a bit whippy
02 - Shortish slope, but I am scraping the barrel. Not great for the cruisers tho...
03 - Sprinklers can sometimes stop, especially when it's a hot day (?)
04 - Sometimes in Winter, the wind can be really bad, bad enough for them to close the Highline and enough for it to be too dangerous to use the kicker (TRUST ME- I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE) |

Halifax dry slope has got to be one of the most under-rated places on the planet.
A snowflex slope, with two kickers and a quarter pipe. The main kicker is a monster, and I'm sure I heard someone say its the biggest in the uk.
this place although lacking the bright lights and commercial razzel of SSV is better designed, better run and far better quality all round. |
