Review Detail
Part of the Superschnee (8 ski regions/223 lifts/458km pistes) group of resorts, Obersdorf sits at the very bottom of Germany, 1 1/2 hours from Stuttgart by road.

Oberstdorf itself is the town, which holds its own in both summer and winter - the primary tourist reasons for being there are hiking and cross country skiing. It also has at least 4 ski jumps of varying sizes. It has a thriving centre with decent shops, bars, cafes and a couple of large supermarkets for those essentials.

The town serves the resort of Felhorn/Faistenoy which are reached by the free bus(free if you have a guest card). The buses are regular and rarely seemed full even at the start and end of the day. The guest card doubles as your hands free lift card.

The runs on the resort itself can be described as short and fairly steep. It's definitely not a beginners resort and I never saw anywhere suitable for learners except in Riezlern.

The lift system of 9 lifts is very good and given the size of the resort it does well with the numbers of people attending. The pistes even at this time of year were in good condition. Top station is 2039m and base is 904m but due to a protecion zone in the middle you can't do that in one run. Fellhorn also has a small snow park.

Restaurants are limited to 2, are pricey for what you get and have limited menus. However the cheese soup was pretty good from the Bierenwang.

At the back of the resort is a link down to Riezlern - it's a case of one run down and one long lift back up. Not sure why you would go down there unless staying there as that red run didn't set my world alight although there are a lot of kiddy slopes at the bottom.

It's not the kind of resort that will set your world alight in terms of epic runs or variety, but if you're in the area it's worth a visit to this or the resorts near Baad or Sollereck. Given fresh snow it may be good if you had a local guide who knew the trees.

Directly out of Oberstdorf is the mountain of Nebelhorn(2224m) served by a cable and this has 4 other lifts and a snowcross park.

Strengths
No major strengths to speak of - it's just there.
People are there to ski and board, not to be seen.
Hot Spots
No hot spots, just a nice place to visit that's frequented by locals and weekend visitors
Weaknesses
Home run a bit steep if you're learning
