| Review Detail |
Double Decade, quite simply 20 years of Mack Dawg Productions. This should be a belter with 25 movies and 20 years of fine tuning behind them. It doesn't disappoint.
The movie kicks off with a trip down memory lane, before exploding into life with classic camaraderie shots. It already has a Robotfood feel to it with this fun factor and choice of tunes. Eero Ettala starts the ball rolling with some big drop downs, numerous rodeos and his mixed bag of tricks, finishing with a sick flip out of the bottom of Bear Mountain's pipe. Lauri Heiskari and Aaron Bittner are next up with Lauri throwing himself off some big cliff drops and Aaron showing similar style and proving he's not just a jib boy.
There are some strange tunes put to the riding, non more so than jibber Jeremy Jones' part kicking in to the dulcet tones of the Doobie Brothers "Long Train Runnin". This sets the tone with JP Walker's part later in the film being set to the classic PetShop Boys "It's a Sin". It does work though. Non more so than with Devun Walsh's part. This is one of the most banging parts in years. I've loved his work in the DC Mtn Lab films and he doesn't disappoint. Set to a mellow Cardigans track, "Erase and Rewind" it is classic Devun. He hits massive cliff drops with no room for error and right in the middle is a timeless smooth and floaty backside 180. It's certainly a part I won't erase from my mind, however I may be rewinding that part numerous times.
Before Devun's part there are too small cameos from DCP and Andrea Wiig. These parts are belter, but unfortunately they are way too short.
After Devun's banging part, there is a trip down memory lane, with old school MDP footage of Noah Salasnek, Roan Rogers and Nate Cole to name but a few.
The second half of the film is a bit of a blur, mainly as nothing lived up to the part of Mr Walsh. Wille Yli-Luoma hits numerous one footed tricks and big powder booters, Darrel Mathes hits massive bomb drops and Heikki Sorsa has one of the funniest moments I've seen on film when he headbuts the boom camera that comes in to shot. Jussi finsihes the film with a Robotfood-esque kitsch. Usual Jussi heere with big BC booters. Shame we don't see any flowing lines from his time in Valdez.
The bonus features are a look at the opinions of some of the riders involved in the 20 years of MDP. We see their mixed opinions on the best jibbers, best jumpers and best MDP movie. Great little addition to the movie.
All in all a great movie, with a good mix of history and future. The Devun Walsh part is timeless and would be on repeat in my house. I did however feel it was a movie of two halves with some of the banging parts and tunes in the first half of the movie. |
