OK...this is an odd one. My girlfriend wore these last year and broke her wrist on the first day whilst wearing them. So, as my caption says, they are not invincible.

Despite all the above I wore them this year and found them to be useful, I didn't fall over so much but gave me confidence. I certainly felt pains in my wrist at the end of the day and blame some of it on the fact you can't twist your wrist as much as you might like in them.

Fit well under gloves though this could be due to the fact that they don't protect you so much!

The girlfriend bought some Flexmeter guards which are designed by a doctor rather than a skateboarder...sounds like a better idea if you are in the market to get them.
Strengths
Subtle
Weaknesses
Girlfriend broke her wrist wearing them.

For a few years I've used a pair of Bauer wrist guards which I bought for rollerhockey but they were a bit bulky and really started to stink. The Dakine guards are quite a tight fitting despite following the measurement guidelines, but they're not too tight to annoy me.
Strengths
On the plus side they are a slim fit and it's possible to get my gloves and glove linners on over them, something that was not possible the Bauers. I like how the velco band it set up so that all of the 'gripping' side don't have the oppertunity to get caught on the inside of your gloves, this was a big problem with my Bauers.
Weaknesses
On the down side the Dakine's don't have anything to stop your wrist from bending backwards which is strange. My Bauers have a blastic bar like the one on bottom of the Dakines along the top of your hand so that you hand can't bend too far back, something that happens a lot when landing/not landing jumps.

I'll definately continue to use the Dakines purely because they are slimmer and make it alot easier to get your gloves on and off but I'll still keep the Bauers in case I bend my wrist back and need the extra support the following day

After breaking my arm I bought a pair of Dakine's wrist guards and its the best 15 quid I ever spent. Despite memory of the injury I still occasionally put my hands down and these wrist guards have saved plenty of breaks in the 12 months that I've been using them. They're a bit awkward and sometimes uncomfortable, but it's better than risking another break and spending 2 months off the slopes. They fit better than those gloves with built-in wrist guards, and of course you can use your gloves without them.
Strengths
Slim fit, you can get them inside most gloves
Aluminium bar which you can (just about) bend to fit
Protective plastic shielding around the alu bar
Snug neoprene body
Weaknesses
Uncomfortable after a few hours' use
Difficult to grab bars, carry board etc.
(nb. these probably apply to most wrist guards)

i used to think these wrist guards were great until i broke my thumb really badly on the 2nd morning of my trip this year.
i stupidly put my hand back when i caught my heel edge and boom, no more boarding for me. so, take it easy when you're wearing them, its easy to think you're indistructable when wearing protection!
Strengths
saved me a few times in the past
Weaknesses
liable to hyperextension fractures
thumb is not supported
tendency to be more adventurous/reckless when wearing them.

My left wrist took the brunt of a harsh wipe out that left it painful and serioulsy swollen, couldnt bear to not be out on the slopes so i invested in a pair of these bad boys and was able to continue boarding for the rest of the week. Although the damage was done it didnt get any worse. They saved my holiday!!
Strengths
Good snug fit, enough protection provided even when fallen on thick hard ice.
Weaknesses
Pain to get over my Scott gloves and the edge by my thumb rubbed slightly.
