Burton - Cartel 04/05 |
4.5 of 5 (8 reviews) |
|
| Description |
| Rule the freestyle underworld. The all-new Cartel™ is today’s standard in freestyle capability. For an insane snow feel, we removed some of the material from the baseplate but added Pressure Distribution Feet for improved weight displacement. This purifies the interface between board and body and reduces damage to your precious ride. The redesigned Team Skyback® is 13% lighter than last year and maintains the same amazing strength, response and stompability of the tallest hi-back in our line |

| I used to have a pair of Customs, but felt they were too soft, so I opted for the Cartels over the Missions as I wanted stiffer baseplates as well as straps and highbacks. The highback on these is pretty big, but not too stiiff, so it doesnt dig in . The ankle strap is solid , and doesnt flex at all, which is a godsend, as I used to clamp my old straps down as tight as I could, and they would still stretch. The Capstrap isnt life changing, but does make everything seem more locked in. |
|
| Strengths |
| Strong, look good, good warrenty, nice and supportive. I cant really fault them. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Ive used these bindings for over 100 days on snow use, and a summer of dryslope, and just had the first breakage, the capstrap strap. Took me 10mins to get a new one from a local shop. Got to love Burton warrenty. |

I've only ever used Flow bindings before I bought some Cartels and at first I wish I'd taken both sets on holiday with me. I found that the plastic ratchet straps were a pain to slide into the strap and that the toe cap kept riding up on my boot whenever I got up from kneeling position.
After getting used to strapping myself in and making a few adjustments to the backs, they felt really good. To be honest, I didn't really feel any more connected to the board than I do in my Flows, but the ride does feel stiffer. The high backs are great and as standard, they sit fairly aggressive, but push the them forward and your a*se is practically touching the snow for an awesome ride. In black, they look wicked with my Ride Yukon '03/'04 which is also black.
If you're looking for a decent pair of soft bindings and don't want to pay top price, I'd recommend them. If you're coming from Flows, give it a few days.... |
|
| Strengths |
| High backs, great looks, lots of adjustments, very stiff and solid ride. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Toe cap keeps riding up the boot, kneel down and get up and you'll be pushing it back down every time. The ratchet straps felt very tough and so it took a while for them to slot easily into the straps. |

| These bindings are great. The cap strapt makes a lot of a differnce. The high back make a more responsive ride. I have one problem and that is i got two left straps instead of a right and left. |

Very responsive and the capstraps are very comfortable. I had a couple of problems though. I lost both of the locking forward lean clips. I think the one on the back binding went because I forgot to lock it back up after getting off a chairlift but I have no idea what happened to the one on the front binding. I didn't unlock it after it came out of my bag at the start of the holiday.
The highbacks are very tall and dig into my calf to start with. Once I've been strapped in for half an hour though, I'm fine, they're very comfortable. I've rotated my highbacks a long way though, so this could be related. |

| Locking FLAD things. Locking the highbacks in place is pointless, and what's wrong with a screw anyway?! |

I am another flow convert. Got new boots and my trusty flows were too big and I didn't think the new flows looked very well made so here I am back on straps.
My main concern was that when I last had drakes it took a while to get the bindings adjusted at the top of the mountain and my mates in switch step in's left me behind! Whilst not as fast as the flows they are very quick to get on and very comfortable to ride.
The big highbacks great and helps make the binding really responsive.
I've used the bindings a few times now and I am well and truely chuffed with my purchase, which surprises me as I have never been a huge Burton fan.
I use Salomon boots and they work great. |

| Strengths |
Comfortable, no toe cramp.
light but still feel strong.
Comfortable straps.
Not too expensive.
There are some trick special edition versions with the heal gaitors too. |
|
| Weaknesses |
Not as quick to get on as my old flows.
No others discovered so far.
