I chose the Baboon Gear cos I was a bit skint before a post Christmas trip and had suffered several "silent scream" moments on icey flats!! Had I had more cash at the time I would have bought some Burton Red impact shorts - but having said that the bum pad has saved my a*se on several occasions so was well worth the small amout of cash outlay.

At first sight it looks like it'd be very bulky, but to be honest nobody noticed I was wearing it under my board pants (or they just thought I had a mega large backside). Makes a big difference on freezing chairlifts and when sitting in a snow as it covers the whole of your bum and lower back so in that way it is probably better than shorts.

Strengths
-Cheap
-Comfortable
-Keeps you warm
-Saves your cocyx from that shooting pain when catching an edge on icey flats
-Doesn't make your bum look too enormous
Weaknesses
-Can be a bit sweaty in the pub afterwards - you feel a bit of a t*t pulling it out of the back of your pants
-A bit awkward to pack - although mine has survived being folded and squished into my luggage.
- When you first use it is a bit flat - but it does mould into shape after a day or two.
-Suspect it won't last for as long as a pair of impact shorts so it may be worth spending a couple of extra quid if you plan on using a*se protection long term!

Well this probably saved me some nasty bruse if not the pain of a heel edge to bum plant on a compacted piste in Whistler!

The bumpad is very light and once it begins to mold to your shape (2-3 days of use) you forget its there. Makes a really big difference when sitting on the snow, I didn't get cold at all even without wearing a base layer under my shell pants.

My riding hasn't progressed to the park yet but I suspect that if I spent most of my time there I would want more protection for my tail bone!
Strengths
1. Light and comfortable to wear.
2. Good insulation when sitting in the snow.
Weaknesses
1. I suspect that impact shorts pads offer more protection for the Park.

In my opinion a better and in most cases cheaper alternative to shorts.
It's a high quality, extremely effective padded layer that sits inside your snowboarding pants, providing shock absorption and insulation to your backside and coccyx.
The pad fits down the back of your board pants and is designed to sit comfortably without the use of any mesh shorts, tight fitting lycra or straps, velcro etc.
Because of this design it's simple to put in and take out without having to get underessed!
The padding is in the area's you need it most, lower back and bum. Unlike shorts there is no wasted padding on the thighs which can restrict movemement or just get on your nerves.
Strengths
Light
Comfortable
Warm (when your sitting in the snow)
Good protection
Easy to use
Chesper than shorts
Weaknesses
One size fits all
Takes a couple of days to forget it's there (but it's worth the wait)
