| Wicked game, ive got the original amped which is very good but this seems to be more progressive in the way you learn. It seems to be smoother than the original, graphics are better, game play better and its well addictive! The snow skate thing is just brill - one thing i was sceptical about before i played it. Mmmm those kick flips feel soooo right! |

| a bit like the first game but with bigger levels, more tricks, better graffics and you can choose all the gear from the beginning. you in career mode you start at 250th in the world (i am 15th) and work you way through getting points, media scores, finding snowmen, photo shoots, finding gaps and beating pros. the 2 player game is also good with lots of game types. |

I feel like this review is gonna seem pretty negative, let me make this clear, Amped II is a good game and a very compulsive one too. The reason I feel It will come across negative is that I think there are more detractions for this game than improvements. I just don't feel it has made the same impact on me as the 1st did. Whether that is due to the 1st one being so much better than anything else out there and this not being much of (if any) improvement over it's predecessor I just can't put my finger on it.
In one of the forum threads I remember saying I had a 'Shaun Palmers deja vu feeling', which is not a good thing because Shaun Plamers is so unrealistic it's not true. Some of the levels in this just seem to have 'too' many things to jump off that they don't come across as realistic. I appreciate that to faithfully recreate any mountain would lead to a dull game, it just seems that the 1st had the right balance and this doesn't.
OK, enough complaining. Where this game has improved is in the graphics department, the boarder sprite is very realistic. I also love the mountain preview which showcases the Xbox graphical qualities really well. There are all new mounatins in this and additional challenges such as finding Gaps, completing photo-shoots (which I think is ace) and performing certain tricks as well as the High-Score, Media and Snowmen challenges that appeared in the 1st. I also like how jibbing has been made so much tougher, in the 1st you could get 100,000+ from one rail, that's not possible this time. On the whole the game does feel a whole lot tougher than before, or maybe it's just cos I haven't got used to it yet! Another addition is style points, this rewards you for putting some style into your tricks which is actually quite difficult to do consistently.
Main gripes, soundtrack borrows songs from the 1st game which just reeks of cost-cutting. My main beef is the dropping of one of the things that made Amped 1 so great. The fact that by selecting a new board/binding setup your boarders attributes would change to reflect the style of board you choose. Now it makes no difference at all, it's purely aesthetic just like all those other ridiculous snowboarding games out there (Shaun Palmers, SSX et al) You can't even choose your bindings at all now! Also when you perform sponsor challenges you just win stupid crap like free fries and nothing that you can use in the game like the clothing you could in the 1st, it's a damn shame cos those two aspects were 2 of my favourites and to not preserve them I think is really sad.
On the whole it's a good game, it'll defo keep you engrossed for a good few hours, I just don't think it's a vast improvement on the 1st, more like 2 steps forward and 2 steps back. Why am I thinking Paula Abdul now!?! |
|
| Strengths |
Great Graphics
Good controls
Improved Realism of Jibbing
Good Soundtrack
Additions of Snowskate Levels
Wider scope of challeneges |
|
| Weaknesses |
Not a major improvement over it's predecessor
Mountains just don't seem as realistic as the 1st Amped
Changing equipment makes no odds like it did in the 1st, why did they drop this?!
No bindings selection
Tracks on the soundtrack are on the 1st as well! Cheapskates!!
Sponsor challenges win you nothing worth having! |

Okay, thought I'd just add my 2 bobs worth as a review. From previously playing the original, I thought that they could smooth out the gameplay making it a little less infuriating pulling off certain maneauvers. Amped 2 really sorted this out. The controls are a lot more forgiving and the game seems to be about 99% bug free unlike the frist one!
I've found all the challenges to be fun rather than a chore so on the whole, I'm enjoying the single player game way more than the orginal Amped.
As already covered the graphics are much improved although you do notice a fair bit of pop up - mostly on the snow covered tree's.
Where I really think the game has advanced is with the addition of online play. Hooking up to Xbox live, there are a couple of game modes. You can either just ride and trick down the hill to show off and chat to other players or you can go for a score contest. This is similar to the event section so you have to get high scores/media/combo/best trick to win. It's great fun especially due to Amped appealing to a lot of boarders around the world - it's good to talk !! |

| Strengths |
Imrpoved Grpahics and gameplay, more modes of play.
Online play

| Weaknesses |
Still the odd graphical glitch.
Gameplay could probably be brought along another step for Amped 3. |
