It's a testament to this board that I've had it for so long and haven't felt the need to upgrade until recently. That may be because I got a little ahead of myself when I bought it, but so what.
I remember this being sold to me as a beginner board but I now realise it was more of an beginner/intermediate board. It certainly is a lot stiffer than most beginner boards and I later realised this is because it has tri-directional fibreglass layers as opposed to the bi-directional layers in most beginner boards.. .this meant a few difficult days until I improved but then I was flying.
I would say this board is more freeride as opposed to freestyle but I have used it happily in the park although it doesn't have great pop. In the pipe its better but the matrix is most at home on freshly groomed piste or in the powder.
The base is ptex 2000 and is very hardy and fairly quick (I love it when I glide by my mate on his Custom).
All in all I would recommend one of these boards, which can still be found secondhand, for the beginner who has learned the basics and can turn and wants to continue improving. However, once you want to go faster you'll need the stability a stiffer board provides. Shame Airwalk no longer make boards. |
