Decided on a last minute end of season short break and snow conditions looked great so booked with Ryanair from Stansted to Saltzburg and flew a week later. Booked with Holiday Shuttle to get to the resort which was great service. Stayed at Pension Siegmondshoff 32 euros a night including breakfast, 5 mins from lifts. Accomodation was basic but absolutely fine, bathroom clean and beds had great duvets!

Resort was empty, slopes all to ourselves, no queues, no people at all really! We had a foot of snow and for the first hour didn't see a sole on the piste absolutely brilliant. Great lift system, heated covered chairlifts kept the snow off and only had to use a t-bar/button once. Loved the cruising blue and red runs and not a patch of ground considering it was April
Strengths
Great lifts
Well maintained pistes
Nice blues and reds
Loads of snow canons if weather is bad
No queues
Good for beginners
Very short transfer
Short flight
Lots of powder
Hot Spots
I'm sure there are some but they were all closed!
Weaknesses
The resort was dead and very hard to find anywhere to eat in the evenings - if you go in April go self catering!

The SkiCircus ski pass covers 90 runs over 200km of alpine piste in Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang and is a well established, pretty resort with high popularity amongst Germans and Dutch, though we met a fair few English also. There is 90% snowmaking capability if mother nature lets us down and this is evident on the lower slopes on the sunny side of the resort. In addition there are floodlit slopes, carving fun parks, mogul fields ( yuck), general funparks etc.

We paid a reasonable price for a a 4* hotel allocated on arrival and we were rewarded with 7 nights at the Interstar which is on the very outskirts of Saalbach in Jausern Saalbach. The ski bus ran every 20 minutes from outside the hotel and will take you to any of the lifts that you wish to use.

It is a very well appointed hotel with all the usual facilities such as two saunas ( I wore bikini bottoms despite instructions to be nude), a gym, plunge pool and two hot tubs ( one of which was outdoors directly outside our terrace - convenient!)

We were HB and had fantastic food each morning and night, with the exception that my other half was not keen on a fish buffet on the final noight of our stay, so we ventured into Saalbach and found a nice Mexican instead.
Strengths
Really well organised and signed area - you can find your way around easily.
Great selection of bars and restaurants and excellent hotels.
Very pretty resort as you would exect in traditional Austrian style.
Much more fancy dress initiaitives going on than I have seen elsewhere. We had darthvader on the drag lift ahead of us and several large dutch cows mooing at the cow bells in the bar!
Drag lifts (T-bars) seem comfier than in other resorts - we used them quite happily here with both of us on the same lift.
Hot Spots
Bobbys Bar - where you can get 'ein bier grosse' for the princely sum of 2 € during happy hour which runs from 4-6 pm. it also shows all the main sporting events on a lovely big screen too ( but does not get Setanta!!)

The bars at the end of the Bauers Skialm are kicking by 3pm with lots of drinking and dancing to cheesy Europop! They do the best Hot Chocolate with Stroh here.
Weaknesses
None - seriously. If I was dead advanced then I would say that there are not enough black runs, but I am not so I was pleased that most runs were within my capability.

4th visit to Austria and so far the best resort. Maybe due to fact we had snow fall all week except Friday, so fresh powder everyday and even got instructors begging for it to stop as too much! Stayed at Bergersport Hotel which was good, apart from being noisy all through the night. Did 90% of runs in Saalbach-Hinterglem area, many of which were nice, long and wide. More skiers than boarders i noticed, but on the upside, that meant more untouched off piste to play in. Seemed to be more of a German/Austian resort and popular with locals, so wasa good sign it was a good resort. Stay at Hinterglem if on a budget as much cheaper resort and lift pass covers all area. Great linking runs, not too many cat tracks either, so loads of area to explore and something for everyone. Would highly recommend!
Strengths
Great Snow....about 180cm on upper slopes (it snowed all week except last day!)
Loads of powder and off piste capabilities
Good mix of Blue/Red/Black runs to suit all

Hot Spots
Hinterglemm runs have excellent off piste capabilities
2 really long Blue and Red runs to Saalbach centre to carve on
Berger Sport Hotel has great food!
Many runs around 2000m long
Castillo's nightclub
Weaknesses
Expensive resort compared with Mayrhofen/Soll with beers average cost of 4.50 Euros!
Berger Sport Hotel damn noisy as got a bar and club below rooms!
Church bells start at 6am and continue every 15 mins.....v annoying when hungover!

Upon arrival in Saalbach, first impressions were very good! Bars, hotels, restuarants and slopes all seemed to be located in close proximity to each other!
We stayed in Saalbacherhof Hotel, a 4* H/B hotel. The service here was out of this world and the hotel was amazing with swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool etc. However the only downside to these facilities was that you could only use them when NAKED! Considering the hotel was full of German wrinklies, we decided to give it a miss.

Now to the stuff you really want to know....the slopes! As a beginner we didn't really test out all the slopes in the area. We practised on a Blue run which was good to learn on with a steepish bit at the top and flattens out toward the middle to practice some good turns on.
More blue runs can be found at the top of the Schattberg X-press, but should only be attempted by previously experienced boarders and not people who are first timers like me. We made the miskate of going up there and attempting a blue run that was much steeper and icier than the practise one we had been on. It took us an hour to go just under 1km practically toe edge and heel edge all the way down.

There are several snowboard schools to choose from, one such school specialises in carving, freestyle, off piste etc.

There are several other alternative activities, we went on a 3km toboggan run one night. You take a piste basher up the run to a pub up the top, have a drink and a game of nails then head back down the run on your own toboggan. The whole thing takes about 2hrs and costs 25 Euros per person and includes a drink in the pub.

Strengths
There are several bars to choose from and a club that closes at 6am, for all you hardcore people!
Bobby's bar is a good place to go, a good British pub with live music on some nights
There is also a strip club near the top of the main street in Saalbach where all the pubs are called Why Not.

To move between the three resorts of Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Vorderglemm there is a free bus service (skibus) when you have the 'SkiCircus' whole area lift pass. It's possible to snowboard the whole circus in an anti-clockwise direction, but this will take the whole day. If your a hardcore snowboarder there is a floodlight piste up in Hinterglemm.

Hot Spots
If freestyle is more your style then there is a fun park in Hinterglemm which consists of several jumps and about 3 rails. Also, a half pipe and carving area can be found in Hinterglemm.
Weaknesses
Drinking in the resort can be quite expensive, you find yourself paying more for a Coke than a Weissbier.

On the whole we had a great time and the only downside we found was the lack of boarders More can be found in Hinterglemm, however the skiiers provide great entertainment while resting on the slopes with their total lack of dress sense.

Didn't have great coverage of snow the year I went here. Mainly on the lower slopes the covering was a bit thin. On the upper areas it was very good.
Lots of Piste, with fairly quiet lifts.
Main queues early on in the day around the big main lifts. Use the smaller ones to get up the hill.
Varied terrain on both sides of the valley.
Town was good for a beer or two in the evening, getting typically sh*tfaced on the reps bar crawl.
Bus service seemed good in the mornings not so good in the afternoons.
Strengths
good lifts, wide choice of runs, cheapish lift ticket
Weaknesses
Altitude maybe a bit low, but typical to most austrian resorts.
