As with Starnzy, this was my first time boarding on real snow. Had 4 lessons and quite a bit of practice on dry slopes before going out there.
Paid for board hire in advance as part of the package and the equipment we got was fairly decent and new. It may have helped that the hire shop was part of our appartment complex though.
Spent the first 2 days mainly on the long blue run over by the nursery slopes - absolutely ideal for getting used to snow and developing your skills and turns - wide, gentle slopes which are not too busy at the start of the week as most people are either taking lessons or too good for this slope!
The rest of the week, I pretty much boarded the entire area. There are plenty of blue and red runs for beginer/intermediates but I think advanced intermediates/advanced riders would robably run out of challenges by the middle of the week.
Particular favourite runs were:
1. from the top of the peak the other side of Grau Roig coming back towards Grau Roig itself which snaked around the side of the mountain and passed a good cafe halfway down situated on the shore of a frozen lake - perfect for a snack and a spot of sunbathing!
2. take the button lift from the Grau Roig valley up thorugh the trees. at the top there is a choice of red or black run. take the red but after about a third of the way down cut into the trees on the left of the track - absolutely wicked!! very narrow path through the trees no wider than a snowboard - i wasn't good enough to make it more than about 30 yards at a time down here but it is brilliant fun and about the only chance in Pas to get amongst the trees. To top it all, it ends with a kicker onto lots of very soft snow so you can try all sorts of stupid tricks without hurting yourself!!
3. A red run from the circular mountain cafe overlooking Pas but then cut of right and take the narrow track round the side of the mountain (with no fence!!) under the chair lift and join the bottom of a black run. Usually find lots of boarders down in this area building jumps. From here you can take an extreme left, go up the side of the peak under the cable car again and there is a very nice drop in and kicker with plenty of space to land. A bit further down is a kind of natural halfpipe and from there you can cruise all the way back to the Pas base stations or into one of the bars pulling plenty of nice little tricks as you make your way accross the various pistes. A wicked run to do as your final run of the day!
While we were there (mid-March 2002) it did not snow once! Fortunately it snowed the day before we got there so the first two days were pretty good. We had perfect blue skies every day which was great for the tan but meant very icey conditions early morning and very slushy towards the end of the day. In fact, I had a pretty bad early morning high speed stack on the ice trying to carry enough speed to get accross the flat part on the approach to the bottom of the half pipe. |

| Strengths |
- Brilliant for beginners/improvers.
- Resort is in a horse shoe around 4 or 5 main lifts meaning just a short walk from most appartments to the slopes.
- Plenty of bars that open onto the slopes that you can board right up to for refreshments!
- Very cheap in shops! Bars are only a bit cheaper than here
- Some very good snowboard/skate/'urban' clothing and equipment shops. |
|
| Weaknesses |
- Lack of snow when I was there - not a fault of the resort of course!
- End up doing the same runs by the end of the week.
- Nightlife not really my cup of tea. The word 'cheese' does not do it justice!
- Pas itself isn't exactly picturesque or particularly clean! |

| This was my first time boarding on real snow, and I had only had a few lessons prior to this holiday, so I was somewhat limited with the runs that I could do whilst here. Excellent nursery slope to the West of the resort (spent quite a few days here :/ ) On the last day there we went over the top to Grau Roug (Spelled badly I think) and the snow was much better over there and real nice runs too. Drink and cigs from the shops were very cheap. I;d be very careful about renting out there (well I wouldn't again). The equipment we got was terrible, falling apart, so we had to go and buy our own board and bindings. Got a bargain on that stuff tho out there. Excellent prices on all that. |

| Strengths |
| Good for beginners, cheap alcohol etc. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| Snow conditions were not too good whilst I was there. Toward the end of the week it was very icy with rocks starting to come through, but with the right weather obviously, this would not be a weakness. The week after I left it dumped big time there :(
More advanced riders might want more runs by end of the week. |

| Pas is quite a good place as long as the snow is good....if the snows shit then it can be difficult....good prices in the supermarkets....£1 for 20 smokes and the beers really cheap....you'll pay more for a pint next to the piste but they do good happy hours at tea-time. |
|
| Strengths |
| lots of choice with 3 valleys to chose from, and lots of wide runs. |
|
| Weaknesses |
| ignorant lifties, too many skiing schools, getting in you're way. |
