If 'summer' is June/July and money isn't an issue then hit Riksgransen in N Sweden.. Amazing journey there by train from Stockholm, awesome scenery, beautiful friendly people who all speak perfect English, superb accommodation, and a good small hill with a bit of something for everyone from complete noob to advanced touring riders with the hotel based heli operation.. and a completely different experience to the rest of Europe..
I cannot reccommend it highly enough.. |

| a few hours in the medival citie de conflans (or something like that) is worthwhile plus theres a load of hypermarkets for booze a big decathlon for bargains and a heap of other stores - you just have to know where to look as your right on the whole the place is a dump |

Why would anyone go on a day trip to albertville?! We stopped over there when driving to les arcs, the place is a ghost town! A saturday night and there was barely a soul to be seen, except in one restaurant which looked good but we couldn't figure out what was going on |

Sorry i didn't get back to earlier - had to do some work today
with regards to accommodation, camping is fun but on a summer holiday such as this one it does give you a few headaches when you leave the site as all your gear is in a tent
If your man is taking his mtb and you are taking your board are you happy to leave it when you go out for days etc ?
I would look into renting an apartment, these are generally cheap as the owners look to make their money in the winter months, the tignes website will probably have some links to private renters etc. alternatively email the local tourist information centre, if there is not one in tignes there is bound to be one in Bourg St Maurice. at least with an apartment you will have the security - a half way option is to borrow / hire a camper van, I guess wildebeast could give you the pro's and cons of hiring a van.
Also consider what you are going to do on your holiday, if you are only riding 2 or 3 days it's not always necessary to stay in resort, sometimes a bit warmer and more to do further down the valley, this then makes days out to places such as annecy, albertville etc more accessible |

The only one i found (i didn't look for that long) was listed on the tignes website...

haha...oh yeah.... 
I swear the blonde hair is having an effect on my brain (if only that was an excuse I could get away with seeing as I'm as dim brunette as I am blonde)
But tenting could be a cool way, although dunno if I could manage a whole week without my hair starightners....bank holiday weekend was bad enough!!!

Can you recommend anywhere to stay?? I've looked at one place a friend recommended called Melezes in Les Boisses (sp?) but I cant find any summer price plans anywhere right now....
I think driving could be more fun for sure....make it a proper road trip. Although I've yet to mention it to the other half yet  |

Ive never done a summer in switzerland but have done a few in france and thoroughly recommend them, i would say drive as it gives you a whole load of freedom to take more stuff and then do want you want.
if you are serious about the tignes trip i can give you a few pointers on wheres good to go and see for walks, days out etc |

France/ Switzerland: depends what you're after. I think the Tignes glacier is the best for terrain, but the town's not particularly nice. Zermatt's glacier is so-so, but the town's brilliant and there's other stuff to do. Austria has a lot of non-snow things to do; French purpose-built resorts tend to be bad for that.
If you drive you can easily bag several places, although you can't drive too Zermat. For that you need to fly to Geneva GVA and catch the train, which is easy to do.
If you fly, well you can get there for 99p, but they'll charge you about £30 each way for your board, and then you'll need to hire a car big enough for you and gear.
Well, you can rent stuff in summer of course, so you could do it that way... |

Just to jump on the band wagon of this thread...apologies.
if you were going to drive to a glacier resort for boarding and biking would the drive be better going to France or Switzerland??
My thoughts were Tignes or Zell am See.....or would it be just as fun to fly over?? bearing in mind we'd be taking Bike and board. (not each...I' have a board fella has the bike) |
