From my own personal experience Burton bindings simply ain't built to last, i've had 3 pairs and 2 hav'nt lasted a full season, highbacks, baseplates, capstraps, ratchets, heelcups, all broken/worn too easily. Most of my friends in Morzine have had similar experiences be they Freestyles, Customs, Cartels, or P1s. Never again.
Tho i did test a T6 with C02's in Austria and loved it.... |

| One thing worth remembering with Burton specifically is that they have a huge range of gear for different markets. The USA Burton AK stuff is bomb proof - I rode with a guide this year who was still riding last year's jacket because he liked the style better than this year's... that's every day riding for two seasons. The more fashionable stuff isn't that robust; no surprise there. |

its true, some people have better luck than others. however, all i know is that my P1s lost screws/snapped bits off/shattered ladders every single time i went away for a holiday.
In fact, threw everything but the heel strap away as the was really comfy and put them on an old set of salamon binders (circa 1990). Guess what. in podwer in cham, one of the heel straps snapped a buckle. The 8 year old salamon stuff was and continues to be fine.
Coats and other assorted Burton softs ive had have also disintrigrated. Ive never owned a burton board. |

Not sure I really agree with the falling apart thing. I had a DOM for about 3 seasons and Cartels for 2. I'm not particularly gentle with my gear either so both did pretty well. I think its just down to luck. Also Burton stuff has lifetime waranty so anything that breaks gets mended.
Jeez now im sticking up for Burton! |

| the only problem i have with burton is they tend to pedal gear which falls apart and usually comes with a high price tag altho there are some notable exceptions. whether they are a core brand...meh, im way over that. |

Not sure i am going to help you here but i ride the Uninc with the EST binding system and to be honest i cant fault it.
I know i am going to get lots of people bad mouthing burton but hey, i'd rather not jump on the band wagon of disliking burton and going for "core brands" like everyone else!
I rode the UNINC/EST for around 15days this season and the response and feel throught the board was amazing on all surfaces. I didnt get any problems with the 2 bolt system at all. The fact you could set the bindings up at any angles or stance width you required really helped me get a comfortable position on the board very quickly and easily.
I didn't however enjoy the slightly hard impacts when you removed the sole of the binding and rode purely on the board. Probably because we ended up doing more park that day than i assumed we would.
Having attended the Board test in Austria and testing the set up against similar setup with the base plate technology this reinforced my ideas on the binding that the dampening effect really does give you a very smooth ride and minimses any foot fatigue thru vibration. (particularly noticable on the bullet proof ice early doors)
I really think Burton are on to a winner with this technolgy and feel it has improved even with the 1 year it has been out to this season whereas i question some of the other new technologies out there to be honest.
Anyway happy shooping but as said if you can try it i would as different people like different things. |

QUOTE (Dinalli - 30/06/2008 @ 00:02:34) Build quality wise i wouldnt say its excellent as i have a few chips around edges and stuff but apart from that it still looks okay. Wear and Tear =/= Bad Build Quality |

Ive been riding an UnInc with Ests for a year now, and while not been hitting any kickers or dying, i can give you a general idea of my thoughts on it all.
Firstly forgive me but apparently im a bit of a burton wh*re. But i will try to be as objective as possible for you and give you an idea of how ive found the kit, generlally riding at cas and 1 month in morzine.
Firstly the board, probably the best board i have ridden personally, now im a big bloke and it just seems to suit me in all the right places, others have tried it and didnt like it one bit. As for the flex im not sure what real difference having the EST rail on there makes over other boards. Personally i think its all down to comfort and how you feel on a board. Build quality wise i wouldnt say its excellent as i have a few chips around edges and stuff but apart from that it still looks okay.
Now the bindings, ive got the ESTs, which lets be honest are a bit of a gimick in a way, but the main difference ive found for me is the lack of base plate, i actually feel like im standing on a board and can feel the response of it a lot more. Now the downside to them, having riden them for a year i can honestly say that they do have a few issues, ive had highback come loose on the mountain on more than one occasion, plus also i have found that the screw system doesnt keep you on your board as well as i would like, bear in mind i dont pull tricks, but i do put alot of weight through them, i have found on more than one occasion i have had to tighten them.
So make of that what you will, and if your up cas way, shout and you can have a blast. Personally for me still the best board and bindings ive ever riden with, and ive had a few. |
