When I tested one a couple of years ago, took me about 1/2 a day to get to grips with it.
The main thing I found is it wouldn't let you not carve. You couldn't wash your back leg about at all, which made speed checking fun! Certainly wouldn't advise any beginners riding one.
As for turning ice into powder - didn't feel like it had much more grip than any other board - but did suit my riding.
Awesome boards - will be testing one next week again no doubt and looking forward to it. |

Being a bit cynical about Magnetraction - I wonder if this does actually happen, or is it because you've bought an MTX board, that you're consciously expecting it to cut through ice like magic ?
Surely anyone with any board and razor sharp edges could ride the same conditions and not feel any different to MTX ?
I'm not disputing what people are saying but like I said, I'm a bit cynical. Surely if it was *that* great, every manufacturer would be producing something similar ? |

Yup.
Not the be all and end all, and you obviously don't notice it in powder, but handy on ice and hard pack.
It'll be on any other boards I buy from now on though. |

it works! I'll give you a quick example - in Avoriaz in february - rain, freeze thaw, early morning ice - last morning it was snowing up top - I got first tracks down the Fornet bowl (sweet) - intermittent powder and icy cordoroy where the wind had blown in poor visibility - the magnetraction cut across it all with no problems - total confidence inspiring - which meant I went faster and turned more and more even on teh steeper pitches - no board sliding out on the icy bits etc - it really does what they say it does! on normal snow - then you don't really notice it at all.
magnetraction is worth it - plus lib and gnu boards are the best anyway! |
