Not being pedantic here, but if your girlfriend was shouting at you to use one lead foot, you weren't making one turn regular and the next goofy were you? Some people in lessons do this and think they're actually linking turns. |

| Pretty much, she did have to keep yelling at me to put the weight on the right foot till i got the hang of it though.. in hindsight i'm sure that should have set alarm bells ringing. I hadn't thought of the whole switch thing till I read this thread, have a whole new perspective on it now |

So your goofy instructor taught you to ride goofy when you're regular? So you can ride switch before you can ride? 
Either way, doesn't matter, just start with the basics in regular stance. Side slipping, falling leaf, garlands, then linking turns. Basically start again and it will all fall into place |

My problem is I can't link turns very well riding regular, I got taught those by a goofy instructor.. so i can do turns just fine riding right foot forward. Thing is thats the only thing I can do that way, I can't skate the board, use rope tows or the button lifts with the right foot strapped in, always ends up with me becoming rather more intimate with the slope than I'd like. 
So I guess that makes me a bit of an oddball
Still this is an interesting thread, I'm really going to have to try this and see if I can't get things sorted out riding the right way round, or at least what I feel is the right way round.. when did all this become so confusing ?  |

Well...I tried riding switch last night. The first run down was a bit sketchy, but after that I started to get the hang of it. The biggest problem was putting weight on my leading leg...I kept putting the weight on my right leg, which is usually my leading leg. Obviously when riding switch my right leg becomes the trailing leg, so I found myself leaning back too much and shooting off down the slope.
Based on my experience though, I'd agree that riding switch helps normal riding. After a few runs switch I went back to being goofy and immeadiately noticed all sorts of things I was doing wrong. Having to think about riding switch reminded me of what I was supposed to do when riding normally, rather than what I was actually doing. |

Funny you should say that. During my ASBI assessment I seriously considered riding switch as mine is neater and smoother in domes. Outside I would say anything up to red is neater! 
There's no great mystery with switch except concentration on what you're aiming to do and practice. Practice everywhere you can and on different terrain and it will become second nature. If I recall corectly I started on cat tracks and then moved to smooth wide pistes... then onto rougher stuff after thinking at the top "could I ride this switch?" A lot of it is in the mind, as well as getting back up from falling but once you get over that it's a walk in the park |

| when i do my demos for teaching i ride switch because i know its a bit smoother looking some of the time for begginers to watch. |

In answer to the original poster, it's basically using the same technique that you've already been taught to ride. You will already have some notion of what to do when doing the diagonal sideslips and falling leaf.
I found it best to work your way up, i.e. a few turns switch, then a whole run, then a whole afternoon and then a whole day. |

I think I ride better technically switch which probably makes sense because I'm regular and right footed, so when switch I have my more co-ordinated foot at the front. I definitely olly better switch on the wakeboard.
Perhaps it's a bit like cricket and the way round you naturally choose is actually wrong:
