Hey

I'm looking for a used Burton Fish 160cm.
It must have conventional screw hole binding mounts - no 'channel' or EST slot.
It also must be in good condition with no deep scores on the base or narled edges.

What are you waiting for..please get in touch now!!

It won't purely for pow'..I do of course need to get around a resort too. What I like about the Fish is the setback stance which means I can keep going without getting crippled by rear leg burn, as I frequently do day-long pow' sessions. I dont know any other boards so focused on this issue.

There are loads. The Fish is good in pow, but I find it kind of crap for piste riding.

The Rome Notch, Nitro Slash, and Stepchild OG Powder are all tapered and setback like the Fish.

You could go rockered as well since that eliminates most leg burn. The K2 Gyrator is an absolute pow bomb, or you could go for the Turbo Dream to get something that's going to perform well on piste too.

You could also look at fun pow boards that do piste. The Dupraz D1 6' is awesome and one of the most responsive boards I've ridden is a good choice as is Furlan if you're more into BCFS. The Rossi Gun, Volkl Selecta, and APO Swallow are awesome off-piste too.

Do you work/live in a resort? It strikes me as a bit silly to buy a pow board if you just go out for the occasional holiday. Powder is never guaranteed and it's better to have something more versatile if it's going to be your goto stick.

Gees! There's lots to think about there. Thanks, as I'm open ideas.

Rome Notch=just 30mm of setback, compared to 2" on the Fish.
Nitro Slash=25mm setback
Stepchild OG Powder=50mm setback, so this is inresting. I'll investigate it.
I've not tried a rocker, so can't comment on the leg burn. Do they really fix it?
Dupraz D1 does look interesting. I can't find the setback spec, but it looks okay. Anyone got one a used one?!
Furlan=their domain has expired
Swallow tails out of the frame for lots of reasons.
And I live in the UK wth it's regular, full-on dump fests- not! Fear not. A few well-timed trips to the Alps and a few weeks of northern BC ensure I get as many pow' days as many a euro' loc'-dog.
And I take a second 'normal' board with me for days when the pow's run out.

I get zero burn with the Notch 158 and the Slash. You could always go with the Notch 1985 (rocker) or the 2010 Slash which has changed slightly (the 171 is the nuts) and cheap as chips.

Yes, rocker does eliminate burn in almost all cases. If you got a Turbo Dream 161 you wouldn't have any issues with burn and it tears up the whole mountain, not just pow.

You really shouldn't be looking for boards with that much setback as the sidecut geometries are crap for piste riding as they tend to truncate turns. The only exception is the Dupraz as it's designed very differently than most boards. It's a pure two footed board that is incredibly nimble. My 179 has a shorter radius than my 155 park deck. Because of its size float is a non-issue, but I found it most enjoyable charging steep well-groomed pistes.

Hey Ralph,
I have a imaculate 07/08 Fish 160 with standard hold pattern in white. Was considering selling as I'm a little skint right now. Wouldn't want to give it away as I absolutely love it!
Would go along with all of Grill's other reccomendations but think he's a little hard on the Fish, come on Grill, you have to admit its one hell of a POW board and you're not a massive Burton fan...I'm not either but it does what it says on the tin...

If you don't go for a Fish or fish like shape I'd recomend rocker is a good alternative, I've been floating waist deep powder on a 159 rocker board this winter and I'm no lightweight.

Let me know if your keen ralph, PM if you want to make an offer.

Yeah bro, it's a good pow stick. No debating that. It's just that I have a tiny penis that I compensate for with massive boards.

Well I like the Fish except for last season's EST plus other design abominations. There's a review of those plus the Lib tech Snow Mullet on my site.

Swallowtails: never seen anyone ride one two days in a row in a helicopter. I have seen many people throw their STs away after a hard day's heli. I rode a board test with plenty of STs plus the Dupraz and, well, let's just say that those were the boards no one was riding by the end of the day.

Leg burn? Not sure what that is, but it sounds like a technique/ stance problem rather than anything to do with a board.

I'd say a Fish or Fish copy would be a good place to start; we have lots of people who turn up on piste (or even park) boards, refuse to take advice, and then face not being able to make one turn for their $500 cat boarding day. Usually we have a spare Fish somewhere... swap them over, and then they're usually away. The difference is night and day.

And before someone sneers that they're beginner kit, well lots of guides and photogs use Fish: they're just good at what they do. The fastest snowboarders through the trees ride Fish. And we all know where the best snow is.

D1 is quicker through the trees than a Fish.

You're right that swallows aren't for everybody. They're incredibly physical and can really beat the crap out of the average rider.

By leg burn the OP is talking about thigh burn from having to ride hard over the tail in pow. Most pow sticks get rid of it.

I still recommend the Turbo Dream if it's going to be the OP's only board.

Got a 2004 Fish 160 (blue). No base shots or dings. Bought and ridden in Canada in champagne powder. It rocks - I don't get in pow as often as I should and I need money!
offers?
