| can you shed any more light on that? as in when it might come down, or to what price???... not tied to buying in France, so if it comes down enough I may get one in the UK. |

That Panasonic thing looks the titties doesn't it, if you can afford it I say get that.
I think I am going to get either the HD1A or the waterproof E1 thing. That €430 HD1A looks like a real bargain but I don't have a HD TV and am not planning on getting one so perhaps not worth the €130 extra. That said it is damn sexy. But I have to buy my pass with this paycheque which is €700. OK. If they still have the HD1A on promo in a month I'll have it. If not I'll get the waterproof sucka.
Off to bed now, we've got cable car uplift for downhilling for the next week, woo |

just found this one: panasonic HDC-SD1
Bit more expensive then I was planning but looks pretty cool. Bigger than the sanyos but sounds like the image quality's better. Can pick it up for 790 euros at the mo... |

think the only advantage of buying in Geneva is getting it VAT (TVA) free. As I'm TVA registered it's easier for me to buy it in France and claim it back. I guess you could also run in to problems bringing it back in from Geneva if they stopped you at the border?!...
I'll probably pick one up from somewhere like pixmani.fr or www.cdiscount.com, they've got the HD1A for 430 euros (about £300 on Amazon in UK). Will have a hunt round to see what I can find the HD1000 for. |

That looks very tasty indeed. Only 1hr 25 of footage on an 8gig card though...but that problem will become smaller as they put bigger capacities on SD cards.
I like the whole Xacti thing, it seems simple and love the small and thin sizes, perfect for riding without a pack. Think I might go down this road. Where were you thinking of getting it from? FNAC in Annecy or somewhere in Geneva? Isn't there another tax advantage if you buy in Switzerland as it's out of the EU? |

cheers Tom, good find
Quality of it looks pretty good in that size, just got the concerns over bringing it up to Full screen resolution (particularly as they don't offer a demo of that!).
Didn't want to go down the route of a bigger camera like Stuarts JVC but found some pretty good deals on them and similar Sonys out in France meaning I can buy them through Ride & Slide and get back 19.6% VAT on the cost
EDIT:... just looked at the other Sanyo cams on that site and found this bad boy.... Not waterproof but damn looks good! |

Without looking too hard, it's resolution that it captures the video at is pretty small so i can understand why they say it's only good for web vids. A good quality DVD would require the camera to capture at a higher quality.
Stuart - just wandering how long does it take to transfer from the camera to a pc? |

Just read on PC pro the Sanyo is really only for web vids? Not good if you want to put it on DVD? Anyone else have any ideas? |

Ive had my 40Gb JVC Hard drive camcorder for a couple of years now and its brilliant. Putting your video up on your TV screen is top quality. Been well pleased with it.

| Jonny, I am in the same market as you as far as camera needs are concerned and consider myself ill-informed too!!! That Sanyo thing looks great but I'd worry about wanting to upgrade it next summer. Plus not being able to plug a helmetcam into it...although it looks like it would be easy to duct tape to a fullface for DHing. |
