Took it up to the domes, seems that it works well in bright light conditions. Didnt try the helmet cam on the slope, but again it works quite well in bright light. The head and arm/leg strap works well.

But you need a special codec installed to be able to view the MPEG4 files. Heard it is a little tricky to edit the files, but should soon be resolved with a new codec.
Probably not as good as a camcorder with a bullet-cam for quality or recording length.

The best thing about it is the size and it is extremely light. Seems like a quality product, easy to use and is perfect to keep in your jacket pocket, so it is not exposed to the cold - the remote has a push to record button and external cam runs on two AAA batteries. Pretty robust and has survived a few tumbles (i know already....)

If you konk your egg, I've got my doubts that the helmet/camera would survive. Maybe, but maybe not.

The reviews I've read of that Samsung are pretty rubbish, they all tend to suggest the video quality isn't up to much for the price of the thing, plus you don't actually get much footage unless you buy a huge memory card.

Hi,

It seems it only has 32mb memory which isnt enough, you'll need to keep a laptop in your backback and download after every run.

I know it is expensive but i have just got one of these two days ago... http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/105928/art/samsung/vp-x110l-miniket-camcorde.html

The max resolution is 720x480 at 32fps. There is a dedicted support and microsite for this product. But i'll have to dig it up...

I know it is expensive (cost of a trip) but it will be worth it as I have organised 19 beginners to Austria! Should be great! Also it does loads of other things and seems to be well made and thought out. The black satin finish is lovely!

I will be taking it up to one of the domes this weekend, i'll let you know how it fares.

320x240, is in the ballpark of the video mode, in most digital cameras. Not much for quality, more for goofing around and playing clips to friends, and laughing over them.

It comes with a targetting laser. Do they expect you to go battling against the death star with it!?

320 x 240 will look pretty horrible on a tv. We have 4 helmet cameras of varying quality. I can recommend the following if people are interested!
http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/DogcamPro.htm
and
http://www.sports-cameras.co.uk/prorange.shtml
The whole issue of helmet cameras depends on what the footage is going to be used for. We have a couple of broadcast quality one which are very good but are £1000 plus per camera. If you are just doing it for home use then the Dogcam cameras are very good and we can testify to their robustness. If anyone wants more info or to have a play with one of ours before you by then PM me and I will help you out! NJP
