A couple of icy bits at tam on sunday night but nothing major....but great fun snowboarding in the mist

First and last time i go there without my knee pads though....a little bit to confident and caught a edge going a bit fast....one very sore buised knee ouch!!

Oh and Tam have an offer at the mo £15 for 3 hours (runs to the end of august, not sure if its members only)...can MK get close to that?

i've never had a problem with the snow at tamworth. i nip over once in a while, (maybe two or three times a year. i only saw a little icy patch once in the last 10 or so years, i always go on a weekday morning which might make a difference. never been to cas.

I've always been one to vote with my feet and have predominantly been going to Cas for the last year (ok it's a little off topic, but bear with me)

Tonight I went to Tam and was pleasantly surprised, the snow wasn't the super-sticky-powdered-mash-without-enough-water that I experienced last time I was there (Aug last year)

so what with the £29 for three hours, and about an eighth of a tank of a petrol (vs half a tank to cas and back) I think Tam will be getting a bit more of my custom this year!

I just feel more comfortable at tamworth and they are alot more friendly there.

I had to take my finisher again because they have the lifts and have never used them before, and my instructor wasnt that nice I just felt like I was constantly getting told of. When I did my finisher at tamworth they were really helpfull and had a laugh with them.

Petty I know it just threw me of MK for that but maybe once I do recreational season I might change my opinion.

Out of interest do they have a session at Mk where coaches are availiable?

i.e. like the Progression session at Tam?

Once o month or maybe a quater they have a "party" session that has free freestyle coaching and easier baby size toys out to learn on. Apparently it gets quite packed but was empty the last one i went to. Think they call the event sno storm or something like that! Have a look a website probs have dates up for next one

There is a bend in the slope at Tam, but it isn't twice as long as MK, it's 10m shorter i think.

Tam over MK any day!!
More interesting layout, better atmosphere and they close the slope for 1/2 an hour to redistribute the snow and the ramps are taken care of through the night so you dont get icey paches developing on the landing.
Personal preference anyway

I've been up to MK a few times now and found that there can be (towards the end of the day) a few small icy patches, as long as you don't try to turn on them though, you shouldn't have a problem.

I hear at Tamworth there is a bend in the run and the slope is twice as long as MK, is this true?

Me and a few friends are considering a road trip up to Tamworth one day just to try out the slope to compare.

They have something Thursday nights 7-9, called sno academy, when they have the toys out. I've never done it, but it looks OK - pretty laid back approach. There's details on the Xscape site.

I'm lead to believe that it can affect the way the snow bonds to the base surface. You can also get 'pea soupers' inside when it's warm out. I say bring back the Tam Jam!

I must admit it was extremely warm out when I went to TAM. Never really thought that it would affect the snow inside the dome tho...

I haven't visited MK for a couple of years now after I went for a freestyle night and the place was rutted and icy. I left the slope after 3 runs and complained via e-mail to mo avail.

Some may say Tam is icy and there can be areas of compacted snow, particularly when we have warmer weather and the snow doesn't bond as well, but on the whole it is usually fine. Monday the snow was excellent and the slope was very very quiet.

The main slope is also currently being refurbished.
