QUOTE (Bobtastic - 21/04/2008 @ 10:05:51) I found TAM old, and extremely icy. TAM is cheaper than any of the Xscapes tho, so that does bare thinking about. i've been to both a fair bit and bobtastic is right about the ice. i dunno if they have dendex underneath the snow at MK but the depth was always pretty consistent when i went and i never hit and icy patch. At Tam it seems like its just concrete covered in a layer of ice covered in a light dusting of snow. An hour after grooming at Tam and there are visible icy patches, because the snow gets pushed down to the bottom so easily. Different on the jump nights cos they really lay the snow on thick for the landings and peeps don't push the snow down to the bottom as much.
Saying that, you'll have a good time at both, and you've gotta learn to deal with that ice (what ice? ouch! oh, that ice) at some time |

| Tamworth - better instructors, better atmsophere. Feels less like a business than MK, which can work do your disadvantage if you get the 13 year old chimp dishing a board out to you with odd bindings, the wrong length. Good atmosphere. BTW - the instructors and their shadows are great! |

| I'd go to Tam at the mo cos looks like something has happened at the top end of the beginner's slope so they had moved them onto one half of the main slope today. They have lessons on the slope at Tam also but they normally don't take up too much room, and as you're a beginner yourself that's not going to matter too much. |

| The condition of the MK slope is very variable, also if you don't go during when a park night is on or eves after 7pm you run the risk of having a lower half of the slope cordoned off for kids on sledges. |

From my personal experience I would say that MK is better that TAM. If they are both the same distance from you I would head to MK. I found TAM old, and extremely icy. TAM is cheaper than any of the Xscapes tho, so that does bare thinking about.
As for experience, the general rule is if you can link your turns, control your speed and use a Pomma drag lift (not applicable for TAM) then you are at a "recreational level" and free to ride the main slope at your leisure. |

| they do freestyle sessions on friday nights that usually work out cheaper per hour but will be more busy and the slopes will be filled with well, freestyle stuff. thatd give u 3 hours of riding though. the only way to ride the day is to pay hourly or pay for 'board in a day' lessons. which will give u a full days riding with lunch but youl be paying for it! |

hey! tamworth is much closer is you're coming from south wales - i have friends who live in porthcawl and they go to tam. i was also gonna move to bridgend and i would've gone to tam
i go to MK atm cos i'm living down south for the time being, and although i have no other indoor slopes to compare it to i don't have any probs with it. i've been on the weekend most visits and surprisingly it doesn't get seriously busy.
meh, just try both slopes i guess and see which u prefer |

| Im gna take a bet and say that tamworth will edge the votes. Ive only ever been to MK though so i cant choose for you, but you wont need lessons. as long as you can link turns like u say, ride the lifts and not be a total hazard to everyone on the slopes then youll be fine. just head on down and ride. I dont think it really matters too much which one u head for. could always try both? |

Hi there,
I have just come back from my first snowboarding holiday and really want to improve now on my boarding as was really getting the hang of it by the end!I don't want to leave it a year until my next hol and I had previously been practising on dryslope, before my hol, but really can't face the thought of going back on the horrible dryslopes!
Anyway...which would you recommend Tamworth or Milton Keynes. The distance is about the same as I live in South Wales. Also, would it be ok to go along just to practise or do you have to have lessons with the snowdomes first. I've had lessons before my hol, and can link turns and use the button lifts, I think they have these at the domes do they?
Anyway any advise would be great!
Many thanks |
