#1  THANKS GB: Thugged Out and Flouro - Has Snowboarding Fashion Gone Mad?  Posted 11/07/2007 @ 23:16
Greetings GBers,

Some of you may remember a while back I was asking for shots of one pieces and various other "interesting" snow sport fashion trends.

Well - this was all in aid of an article we've just publishsed on SnowSphere.com - all about how snowboard fashion seems to be looking a lot like ski fashion these days (one pieces!) - which for a long time has been the #1 target of snowboarder's mockery. It also looks at the gansta styles and flouro.

A big thanks to those GBers who sent photos. The article could be deemed "controverisal" - so if anyone's offened and wants me to remove their pics/change the captions - let me know and we'll do so.

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on this topic...

Read the article here: Snowboarding Fashion Gone Mad

cheers

the fact that there was a best dressed award, that was nothing to do with a fancy dress competition, kinda validates the whole article tho

I think 'Pictures courtesy of Goneboarding.co.uk' at the top of the article kinda gives it away

Half of me doesn't want to look like a tw*t on the slopes and the other half thinks "buy a black jacket because it won't look fashionable but you can wear it back in England as well" and so I did. Still I love my baggy pants

Oh no does this mean I'm one of those fashion victims with my yellow trousers??

I'd like to think that I wear em bright so I can be seen easily, being a lil' bit dizzy I could, and quite often do get lost from the group.

Good article though!!

Good article. I have my fluro orange pants though so fellow riders can spot me in the distance and know where to meet up.

great article!

The crazy fashion for saggy trousers exposing your boxers always mystified me.

Why go to the trouble of buying waterproof trousers only to expose your arse to the cold wet snow?

Now the fashion has gone mainstream you can "get your sag on" (TM) without actually exposing your underpants.

If I actually see anyone actually using these on the slopes I will probably pee myself laughing.

Its really sad that in this country the shops only stick to boring browns / blacks because all you lot are safe and stick to your browns and blacks. its so boring. The brands do lovely bright coplourways but they get rejected in favour of the brown option.

I still love my zimtstern fluro pink jacket, role on next summer ill be wearing it in the street when fluro comes back big time.

Thanks for everybody's feedback on this so far.

Of course it's all just a matter of personal preference and opinion.

What some see as "safe" and "boring" others see as stylish.

What some see as "snowboarding fashion gone mad" others see as the cutting edge of snowboard chic.

What I do think is interesting (and the main point of the article) is how we, as snowboarders, have been mocking skiers for such a long time - and now some of the main snowboard fashions seem to be emulating the ski fashions of days gone by!

The colours are the same, the styles are getting similar (the matching top and bottoms are akin to a one peice) - but what's changed? Does the fact that somebody is wearing something in a mag mean that it actually looks any good?

I find it hard to believe that something which apparently was such a fashion disaster (when worn by a skier) is now being touted as the king of cool (if worn by a snowboarder). To me, that's just being sucked into to advertising bullsh*t... there seems to be a critical mass, and if enough people are wearing something in the magazines that equals cool.

Again - the article is opinionated - and it's just my personal observations on what's been happening in recent years. It's not an attack on those who keep up with fashion - more a digg at those who seem to place looking the part over and above the actual enjoyment of riding.

Top read - echoes quite a few of my thoughts. Everyone gets influenced to one extent or another mind, if I was buying my snowboard trousers again I wouldn't go for the XL size I went for but I definitely prefer to keep my money for more slope time rather than an annual/bi-annual change of outfit.
