Good idea 
Clamp in between cardboard maybe or cloth to protect surface?
Might try on mine.

Hi mate,
These are battle scars Keep it like it is. I wouldn't bother messing with them, maybe just smooth it down a little to stop further snagging and for aesthetics, but dont go doing anything more
My board has far worse and has 3 weeks of boarding, cliffs, boulders, knocks in lift queues, trees, you will have far worse in the future. It's a sign your out there giving it some!
You only need to get a service if you need your base waxing, your edges are chaffed and ragged or your base is gouged and you need a bit of ptex. You just have a few chips in the top of the board, thats all
Its always a sad moment when your new shiny thing gets a few dinks, but then scars are stories to be told in the future, remember that too and smile!

First day out with my new shiny board, and I got run over by another snowboarder. Sliced through my trousers (fortunately covering my boot, not my leg) and made a right mess of the top of my board. The scratches I don't really care about, but there are a couple of gouges at the edges that look as if they might start to peel away. Should I just file them down, should I take the board in for a repair, or am I just worrying about nothing?
