I am thinking of a trip to L2A this summer (maybe mid-late July) with my girlfriend. The plan is to drive there and take the boards and the bikes so we can do a bit of both, then also stop by Morzine for a couple of days as a change of scenery.

One thing I was wondering is, do they have bad snow years on the glacier? L2A only has like 230cm at the top at the moment, whereas other non glacier resorts in Austria etc seem to have 450+cm!

Keep the tips coming i'm sure they will come in useful for loads mroe people planning the same trip this summer!

My tip - get the Norfolk line ferry from Dover to Dunkerque, it works out tons cheaper than Dover to Calais crossings and Dunkerque only looks about 25 miles away from Calais (so about £3 in fuel)

From what I have read the tolls to get to the Alps will cost around £70 return (any updates on this?)

with a couple of you it'll be cheaper to drive as long long as you pick cheap ferries. But NEVER EVER EVER speed 50km/h above the speed limit, it just ain't worth it

i'm thinking expensive tho cos of the toll roads? i dunno i've not done a road trip like that before but i do enjoy driving! won't it also be expensive just to turn up at a hotel/resort and stay rather than booking beforehand?

Driving to the Alps is great fun, doesn't take much longer than flying door to door.

2Alpes in the summer is more or less exclusively park/pipe or ski racing, there isn't a lot else.

Yeah, not for a few years though. I prefer Zermatt or Tignes for the summer. I don't do park or pipe, but I find Tignes has the most interesting terrain (read: decent bumps), where as Zermatt's the nicest place to hang out.

Booking? I just drive there and find somewhere to stay (or catch the train to Zermatt...). Check the web.

Done Camp there a few times. Back in the day with Martin Drayton and recently with McNab.
Top resort in the summer, but the run down to the Jendri lift from the glacier can be like surfing late afternoon. Park has something for everyone.
Village is like Extreme channel! Tons to do and if you're lazy just lie by the pool(free with lift pass). Got a great pic of Mrs in her bikini and me in full snow clobber. Two hols in one.
Doing it again this summer, Self catering, bout £400 for 4 person chalet. Bargain!

I've been couple of times a few years back. I would definitely recommend it. L2A is an awesome town in the summer. Loads to do other than snowboarding as well.

It's awesome riding on the glacier in the morning then strolling round the town in shorts and tshirt in the afternoon.

The glacier is only open for riding until about 2pm in the afternoon, and depending on the weather the run back down to the top of the cable car can get icey like you've never seen. It gets see through in parts. The rest of the glacier is fine though, and the park is awesome, they usually have a couple of half pipes too.

You take two cable cars up and it takes about 45 minutes to get to the top, plus a funiculaire (?!?) to get up the 3600. And if you are staying over the Venosc side it's about a 15 minute walk to the lifts. Bearing in mind that on the way back it could be 80 odd degrees in the town you'll be sweating your ass off in you snowboard pants and boots. Be prepared for a long journey to get to the snow from the town!
You don't stop snowboarding because you grow old, you grow old because you stop snowboarding.

Not been in the summer but spent many weeks there in winter. You should defo be able to get some cheap accomodation and IF your happy doing cheap and cheerful i`d recommend the Maeva Muzelle. Its in the Place de Venosc, 10 min walk from the lift to the glacier but at the better end of town - neare to the better bars/ restaurants etc. Only recommending this IF on a budget (me and my brother did the last week in the season once for £35 each for a 4 night stay) - because it is your basic French alps ski apartment, nothing more nothing less.

Hope ya have a good trip and I`d appreciate it if you could let us know how ya get on cos me and a few mates are considering doing something similar late July.
If you`re smiling.......you`re doing it right!
