#1 Spaces in 3V 20th March? 01/02/2010 @ 22:26:01 |
   |
|
Looking at getting away again week of the 20th March due to me having serious withdrawal symptoms. The only 2 people I know who are able to go away that week don't want to go to the 3V as they're still learning and prefer to go to a smaller resort.
Does anyone have any space spare anywhere? I'm 32, male, (reasonably normal) don't suffer chronic flatulence or any other maladies etc etc.
Not desperate to get hammered although a few beers at night won't hurt (I'm no puritan), I'm there mainly for the boarding.
I wouldn't class myself as a beginner anymore, done 3 weeks on snow so I can get from AtoB ok, am hoping to be able to get right across the valleys this year, looking forward to it!
Anyway, if you have any vacancies at that time and my profile doesn't make you recoil in horror then it'd be great if you got in touch.
Thankyou!
Joe. |

joe
can only give advice on the courchevel end of the valley as thats the one i know best
as you still have at least 7 weeks to go there is plenty of time to find a deal
get onto www.latania.co.uk as they list all the chalet operators and appartment owners, sign up to the facebook page and you get sent a link every so often when one of the regulars does a special deal on chalet or appartment
also look at pleasure - they have chalets / hotels in 1550 and la praz that are normally a good deal and often cater for boarders who are on their own so can easily hook up if you end up going out on your own
generally (but not always) the higher up the hill you go the more money you pay so bargains will normally be had in 1550, latania and la praz, dont rule out bozel which sits in the bottom the bottom of the valley and has a free shuttle bus up to la praz, mallsorts on here runs a chalet there which i believe is quite reasonable, i believe that mini mansel has been there in the last few weeks
also you could consider bride le bains (links in to meribel via long gondola) , again a bit out of the way but but cheaper than 1850 - a group of gbers went there early jan, check out the thread to see who went and quiz them on what they thought of brides.
hope you get sorted

Hey this is irrelevant, but saw you have been to 'lavigno' italy. Whats it like? Any good? Is it a small town and how good are the runs?
P.s i'm in the same boat, trying to force my bro to come with me to meribel or val thorens on the 20th. All my friends are skint and lame. |

Hi Purplelips....
I posted some info on Livigno a few months ago, you'll find the link here
Livigno info
If you're any good and get about the piste quick there are better resorts as its split over 2 mountains requiring a bus between the two main lifts.
I've had a couple of mails regarding the vacancies for the 3V but nothing concrete, they get in touch and then you don't hear from them again. I've been looking at waiting till last minute and getting a cheap deal with Alpine Elements, they're letting spaces go for this weekend for Tignes £309 pp inc flights/transfer/catered chalet accomodation. I'm assuming that they'll be similar for later next month. As all my friends have dropped out now I'm now looking for someone to help fill a room.
Hope the Livigno info helps!

Whoops. Don't know much about it, looks like a massive amount of terrain but all quite far away from each other.
Banff is at least half an hour from all the ski areas and we had to get buses everywhere. That really annoyed me as I just want to leave the chalet and get on a lift. Tignes was like that which I loved! Nightlife was good too.
I suppose all French resorts are pretty similar in set up.
If you're going with your lady friend, then maybe look into; " Courchevel is the most exclusive valley in Les 3 Vallees with four ski in ski out villages all named after their altitudes; Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650 Courchevel 1550 and Courchevel 1300.
The Courchevel Valley is a large wide basin of mainly intermediate terrain surrounded on all sides by steep challenging advanced slopes with chutes and gullies leading down into the main basin towards the villages." |

French resorts are nothing like the canadian ones, normally the village is at the bottom of the slope / on the slope
The 3 valleys is massive, the villages are miles apart - driving between Courchevel 1850 and val thorens will take over an hour, the beauty of the 3 valleys is you don't have to tho, all the resorts are linked together by pistes |

hahaha,
o.k the postings really have gone off track. lol. I must say 'lavigno' was an option for me purely because it seems to be on offer for cheap. And its italy and the men are fit?hehe.
Anyhow, france is where it's at. I've been to 3 valleys before and am still planning on going!
So if there's anymore people going on the 20th to either, meribel, courcheval or val thorens let me and joeninetee know! Be good to get a group formed. |

Hi everyone
Joe, I could well be up for a week in 3V. I am in a similar situation to yourself. I would have to say that I would not really want to go to VT though. Good riding conditions but grim resort imo. Like yourself I would like some apres ski, and VT just lacks any vibe imo. I have been to Meribel several times and would happily go back or happily try Courch too. I would be quite happy to do a last minute too. I see your from Manchester? Perhaps you could hook up for a pint and take it from there?
With regards Livigno. FWIW, I did my first two weeks out there and loved it. Mostly for the resort etc and not the mountain, (in retrospect), as I was not really good enough to know much. It is in 2 distinct sections which is manageable. The reason it is cheap is largely the transfer time, some 5 hours or so by coach. What I liked about it at the time was as a beginner so was everyone else and so the apres ski and general camaraderie was good. I would not really want to go back now though, perhaps for a last minute deal. A good place to buy kit from I might add. I am not sure I would call it sophisticated either? Certainly not in comparison to other Italian resorts, but compared to say Andorra then it is. |

| Try looking at Les Menuires as well if the 'big 3' resorts are too expensive. It's still in the 3 Valleys, has its own decent runs but you can also get to Meribel, Mottaret and VT quite easily. |

Hi, I'm defiantly up for getting away. So much so I've been online and have a new credit card winging it's way to me.
I'm easy on location, been to Courchevel and Livigno a couple of times before and both are fine.
Let's make it happen .... |
