  #1  Snowboarding Camera - Full HD ? Which one?  Posted 22/01/2010 @ 19:04
Hi guys, so im going to scotland on tuesday to go snowboarding.

I want to buy a nice camera so i can record myself going down the slopes etc

I have seen quite a few cameras and done a bit of research but id like your opinions.

Sanyo Xacti Full HD slim - This camera shoots full 1080p and is very slim and light so i think its awsome, has anyone used this for boarding yet?

Samsung U10 - This shoots full 1080p video as well and the videos look good when people use it in the city etc but never seen someone snowboard with it. what do u think.

Is there any cameras better than these ? The only requirement is that its NOT bulky and it MUST shoot 1080p video. Ty for the advice in advance.

Most i can pay is 190 GBP

hey there!

I use the sanyo xacti and I think its sick! If you can afford a little more, Id go for the water proof version of it for obvious reasons.
Its really easy to use and also takes really good stills (9mp) and its small enough to fit in your pocket, no need to ride with a bag!
If you are a mac user it syncs with iphoto and imports all the movies in quicktime, mega easy!!

Check out the GoPro HD Hero. Waterproof and stuff. Check out YouTube for more vids. There is one where its stuck to a surfboard which is cool

Pretty much asking the same question but willing to pay a wee bit more.

Been checking out the panasonic SD10 & SD60 and they both look like good players. Just slightly concerned about the weather-sealing on them, as they don't really mention anything about it

VHoldR ContourHD can do 1080p @ 30fps and looks really good from all the sample vids. RRP is about £270 but i've seen them go for sub £200 on eBay. Comes with helmet mount, goggle mount, flat surface mount (for mounting on your board!). Thinking of getting one myself.

Wow its been a while since ive seen this post, i have been to scotland in glenshee since then,,,

i am afraid to say i have now become a SKIIER, snowboarding is far to hard to learn and skiing is EASY AS HELl !

But i did end up using a KODAK ZI8 !! The quality was unbelievable ,,, truly amazing but i have 2 say there was a few fualts.

1. It looks EXTREMELY SHAKY !!! U need special software to deshake it and if ur not a computer pro this isnt very easy

shouldve got the sanyo xacti, i was gonna get the zi8 but it doesnt have image stabilisers so i went for the xacti for the same price and its been perfect for filming, i uploaded a video in the movies section you can check out for comparison

edit: although i only used the SHQ mode not the hd mode, due to my computer not being able to edit hd well

Any reason why you'd recommend one of the Sanyo Xacti over the Panasonic SD10/60?

I have the Xacti handheld that is 720p but more importantly for me is waterproof. Created some good footage.

i didnt, i recommend it over the zi8 by a longshot tho. and on the waterproof point, it really isnt necessary for snowboarding, you very rarely get snow on the camera and snow itself wont do any damage as you just rub it off, the only way it would be a problem is if you left it in a bag with snow which melted and got inside the camera but you would have to be pretty careless to let that happen.

Snow is frozen water. Better safe than sorry.

I looked at the pistol ones but the optical zoom is only x5 compared to x40 on the handheld. I therefore went for the WH1 version that was slightly more.
