my old drakes heelcup got snapped in transit a few years back (attached to the board), I put it down to airport manhandling, and that they were shitty drakes. Now I've got rides, but I still take them off in case |

i also leave mine on, i dont see how theyre going to break if their not complete oxfam shop crap ones.
just fold down the highback and strap up the straps over the back and lash a towel or something around it to stop the leather getting ripped or anything, you people are all being a bit too paranoid.
also Satch shouldnt you be more worried about your geetarr than your board if that is indeed 'THE Satch' |

QUOTE (nickmotture - 10/05/2008 @ 18:56:13) I really cant see how the edges can get damaged in a board case, i mean they're made of steel! If you use a soft case, then really the problem's the other way around: if your edges are sharp then they cut the bag depending on how the handlers load them. I used to stick something around the edge to stop that happening until I discovered hard-shell cases. |

| a friend managed to get his brand new board damaged at stanstead on the baggage conveyer system something about coming down a chute and straight into the wall at the bottom, i don't think it will make much difference to the metal edges but could make all the difference to the board itself as it was the board above the edges that was damaged |

QUOTE (azzie - 09/05/2008 @ 12:56:35) ahh...I put my goggs in my boots and socks in my bindings, and I dont take my bindings off I've left them on every time I've travelled anywhere!! I put my goggles in my boots too. Gloves go in the bindings.
And like most people it seems, I leave the bindings on and pad out the bag with my snowboarding trousers and other clothes. Unless there's two board in a bag in which case the bindings come off the bigger board and go in plastic bags wrapped in a towel/jumper/something and wedged between the bindings of the smaller board. |

I always leave bindings on! I have a Dakine wheelie bag, with the seperate boots bags at the ends. Everything ( apart form the kitchen sink ) gets stuck into this bag and like everybody says, pack out the bindings with your clothing for the extra protection. I always stick the goggles inside a binding too.

QUOTE (nickmotture - 09/05/2008 @ 10:07:06) Snowboards On A Plane...is this the sequel to the Samuel L Jackson film? I thought that! It couldn't be any worse than the first one!
Satch, I have a Burton Wheelie Case that has two internal bags for boots and bindings. So I take my bindings off and pack them in one of the baggies and pad them out with socks and gloves. If I'm going away for a week I'll just take my board bag and pack everything into that.
For longer trips I have a Dakine Overhead wheelie bag which I put all my clothes in and I pack all my board related equipment and clothes into my board bag. |

QUOTE (JoeSchmoe - 09/05/2008 @ 00:00:58) naturalfreeride --> I'm not sure I agree. My experience is that apart from having to pay for regular luggage this year, there hasn't been a big change in how the airlines I've dealt with this year (bmi, easyjet & monarch) have dealt with board bags. Though that may be due to my winning smile. Could be Joe, I haven't had any problems really either, but I always hear about people who do. Just mentioned it as the airlines and charter operators I have spoken to recently say they are getting tougher on ski/board bags. Maybe it's just a deterrent and to be honest it does depend on the ground staff at check-in. |
