GNAR was definitely in my mind when making it.
I'd looked at loads of title sequences & liked the home made look of Rome's effort.
I felt that GNAR was missing some action, as there's only one clip in the whole sequence of any snowboarding (when they mention one of the parks) & decided that a 'UK rider' viewpoint and the addition of some motion graphics would add to it. |

| Yup thats a good thing to learn when you're starting out and studying, plan it all first. Although once you get a job the deadlines are so tight you hardly ever get a chance to plan anything, you end up designing it on the fly. Cant remember the last time i had time to actually plan anything, but that comes with experience, ive been doing motion graphics for ten years and you end up delving into your memory banks for things you've done before but not used. Recycle recycle recycle! |

thats cool. i guess u were inspired by the Rome video GNAR?
I too am doin motion graphics in uni at the moment, the lecturer keeps goin on about how important it is to plan it all on paper first before jumping onto the computer. |

| No didnt shoot the footage, i think it was shot by the Lockdown boys since it was edited by Jonno Verity, would make sense. Hoping to do some filming this year while im out there though, they do daily pod casts that are shot during the day and edited together with my graphics by Damo doyle every night after the comps finish. |

Nick I really like your stuff! I haven't used After Effects for a few years as I online on Nitirs, but really need to review my skills!
Do you do the filming too (meaning the soulsports stuff) I'd love to get into combining my love for boarding and my editing, any advice? |

Your film is really good! I like its simplicity!
I edit on AVID and have found lots of problems with getting stuff between FCP! You can get a home version of AVID Express and Media Composer, but personally so many people are moving to FCP, myself included! |

| Yuo can transfer files between Final Cut pro and Avid for the pc...but its unlikely you'l be using avid on your home pc, unless youve got a few grand to spare!! |

Cheers ridetheskies; I've actually got extra footage together, but it didn't make the final cut, there's a clip, they will be done though & i'll be blogspamming it soon enough.
I don't think you can transfer FCP stuff into other files, particularly PC programmes, I've only been shown FCP so far, college are keeping us Mac all the way. Which means i'll probably have to get a Mac for home before long (I'll install Windows on it though, I can't turn my back on it that easily).
Nick: College are pushing us to leave all our ideas making to sketchbooks and leaving the computers alone until we actually come to the creation, just so we don't do the exact thing you're talking about. We taught to know what we can do with the software, but not just experiment with what 'looks cool' - something that is easily done. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my sort of rough style to my work in future things, I like the rawness of it, though there's always time for slick visuals |

Yup After Effects and Final Cut. The editing on the promo was done by Jonno Verity though, he sent me the cut and i added all the graphics. Just about to start on this years Brits Titles actually...any ideas??!!
You'l need to learn After Effects but try not to rely too heavily on it, too many people see it as the be all and end all of doing graphics, its an amazing programme but you still gotta have an idea and some raw material to work with or it can look very dull and too digital. Keep messing about with cameras, thats the best way to learn and to stay creative. |

I really liked the video on the pages too - if I had one suggestion it would be to make more of that - have the clips slightly longer and maybe a couple more.
If you have a decent PC at home you could still do it on that, although I don't know whether you can transfer stuff between software packages or not. But, and I say this as a mac user, the video editing software on PCs is just as good as on a mac.
Or just get yourself a mac for home |

Thanks peeps for your feedback, just took a look at your work Nick, that's a side of things that I'm looking to expand on with future projects, did you do the Brits stuff in After Effects per chance?
It's the first time I've tried using a camera properly, Motion (motion graphics software) and only the second time I've used Final Cut Pro, so there's loads of stuff I need to learn, but that's why I'm at college.
I got a decent mark for this work (and the sketchbook, which I made into a ladybird 'Read It Your Self' book), so I'm fairly pleased with the outcome, though I know there's loads of technical mistakes.
I'm considering making a full film out of this idea, with rider sections beginning with a page turn, I even had the idea of the DVD menus, with a slam section etc., but the time constraints in college & not having a Mac at home may put a kybosh on it.
The music was by my friend and extended family member Will Jeffery, you should check his 'real' music, he has a great voice, but usually only plays at half the speed of this video (I had to double the speed to fit the video) |

| Can't listen to the sound (I'm at work), but I like the titles - especially the rider intro vids embedded in the book |
