i have spent the majority of my holidaying life in Oban, its a rad place but sadly no skate park =(
My parents are retiring up there and are looking at properties up there for the next 2 week, My dad is a advanced nitrox and rebreather instructor, and is closeley linked with a few dive schools up there and the like.
The particualr area they love is called Gallanach not to be confused with Ganavan which is a nice beach and holiday cabins resort, Gallanach is the area that Puffin Divers are in.
I love the place and is only an hour away from either Glen coe or nevis range.
I do believe it varies from season to season but I reckon you could get 30+ days on the hill if you were keen!.... and no I'm not a local but feel like a honorary one...lol... |

Hi all,
Me and the missus are seriously considering moving to Oban - in large part for quality of life - great sailing area and of course close to the west coast ski areas and an ability to ride more frequently than just the odd week overseas.
Now I know that the snow record is patchy and you get high winds etc - I am not expecting alpine conditions all winter, but i wanted to know what the reality of riding in scotland in an average winter is - how many good days can you expect to get (I work for myself so i can go anytime the weather is good), how busy are the slopes, whats the potential for wider hiking/riding in the mountains, and I guess more genarlly what it like living in that part of the world?
Any info/views/advice would be really useful! |
