There could be snow towards the end of the week according to metcheck. Due for a northern blast.

Its cold here this morning and looking at Glencoe the snow cover is building. The next couple of days have to be milder with a fair bit of rain but its hoped that it wont be too severe a thaw before colder weather follows in.
Freeze/thaw cycles are what is required to start to form a base but there might just be too much rain over the next couple of days.

It looked like there was more snow up in Scotland over the weekend. Was it in all the right places? Or did it fall on the slopeless hills?

QUOTE (dants - 09/11/2008 @ 15:22:29)

I've only been to Nevis and Glencoe but as far as accommodation's concerned we got a basic lodge that slept 4 at the Inchcree centre that cost us around £13 a night each to share and had two bedrooms, lounge, telly, kitchen etc. There's also a fantastic private hostel in Kinlochleven that's very reasonably priced and you should be able to get a room to share between your group.

There's also hostels in Glencoe (a handy walk from the legendary Clachaig Inn) and at least one if not more in Fort William.

The hostel at Kinlochleven looked good, unfortunately they were fully booked in the main one when we went and we were up on the hill with a load of foreign workers.

hi toe edge , i live in scotland within 2 hours of all 5 scottish resorts , you may get some snow in december on the hills for boarding but its not guarenteed at all . you need to check ski scotland site daily or winter highland site. usually you ll find when the snow comes it will be ok at 1 or 2 of the resorts and maybe shut or poor at others so usually u check sites and go wheres best . if 2 open check weather then make your choice as the wind can sometimes get quite high at some places. all 5 places can be very good if they have great snow but if i had to choose it would be cairngorm 1st for me and glenshee/glencoe joint 2nd , glenshees good if the whole resort is open with good snow .don t know much about accomadation as i travel to where i m going and back . think sleeping in car in the hills would be pretty chilly tho lol sure theres b and bs and such like around tho

Totally agree with Kin - Scotland's more of a last minute place to head, rather than a book in advance one.

You could strike it lucky on the 12th - but it's equally as likely to be nothing open at all.

honestly check out the websites the week before you plan to go... it could be brilliant or it could be grass... scotland in recent years has been much better for some late season boarding than early season

Hi everyone loving the pics got me excited now for the winter season. There's a few of us wanting to go up Scotland on the 12th December for a long weekend boarding. Wanted to know which resort people would recommend us going to? we're all intermediate riders. Also do many people just sleep in there cars/vans wanting to keep it as cheep as possible or are there youth hostels around the area?

P.S we're going from the manchester area if anyone's interested in joining us

Cheers Dean

Some more photos from CairnGorm yesterday can be seen on this page:
http://www.highland-instinct.co.uk/forum/read.php?1,7346,page=3

Looks like it was a great weekend on CairnGorm! Unfortunately CairnGorm is now closed for about a month for maintenance.

Lecht will continue to be open for as long as the snow lasts though (there may well be another mild spell between now and the start of the 'proper' winter).

Rock and roll!

No I don't ride in Scotland... I'm just too damn extreme to actually go riding at all.

AWESOME!!! well done to all those who got up on't hills - had I known there was that much I'd have considered extending our lakes weekend to cover Lecht or Gorm. That is great news for Scottish Snow Sports (fingers crossed it freezes hard, making a great base!!)

Good work everyone. Great pictures.....
