I found a new sport at the weekend go running on a hangover it's wicked you work your legs whilst working your stomach muscles (keeping the chunks down).

just seen your from derby...my neck of the woods! mountain biking would be spot on! you have the peak district on your doorstep! cannock chase down the road and at a stretch even wales!

Get a decent well built xc bike (so it can handle all the fun stuff not a race bred whippet bike!) you spin up the climbs, flow through the singletrack and blast the downhills!

not a big fan of the uphill part myself but singletrack and downhill are unbeatable! (i have an xc bike and a downhill full susser)

And if you plan to try and use the use the bike for a bit a road riding to get the miles in and work the cardio a good plan is to get a 2nd set of wheels with thinner more roadie tyres you will find them much better on tarmac than proper off road tyres and it saves the profile of your off road rubber for when you need it..........in the dirt!

dont worry about getting hurt too much.....its like boarding really, it can be as safe or as risky as you like, you dont have to hit everything at mach 10 and fly of every bump, jump and root in sight....unless thats how you feel at that particular point!

oh cr*p just realised i have posted this on my mrs login.......arse! im not 'mush' im 'biggreen'

Fell running.

Awesome way to get fit, see the local mountains and build up your quads.
You WILL feel like you're about to die on most runs though.....

Running , biking yes buttttt swimming it ain't my thing I'm like nemo with a little fin swimming crap.

Plus swimming is one of those pants sports where first you have the issue of getting from the changing room to the pool whilst wearing what can only be described as you pants and bra.Thennnn you have to get all wet and cold and swim up and down with no change of scenery. Also usually the view under water is some one's arse up close coz they're too proud to get in the slow lane so they hold you up in the middle lane!!!

yep i know (Knew the feeling)

just go down and join a club....i was playing against a top team in the german table tennis league.....when i lived oner there i was a guest at their training sessions...friend of a friend sort of thing....so iwas given the runaround good and proper

i was a bit of a player myself, but what they did wiht the ball was rediculas (sp?) so that's how i go tthe workout..........so a club is a must to get the full experience i recon.

also running and gym work are great ways to keep fit, but they are disciplines in witch you have to push yourself......the martial arts are area's where others push you.... you cant just stop when you feel like it.......thats the difference really

now this may sound very wierd but as a full time professional martial artist and instructor i thought i was very fit..........however the one sport that killed me, and gave me the most aches and pains for the next week was....................table tennis

and was later informed by a profesional fitness intructor theat table tennis work MORE muscle groups at once than ANY other sport or physical workout...double even more than swimming..teble

just thought i would add that

Boxing or even thai boxing (so you involve leg workouts too) are very good idea's......and if you added a session of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu per week you would really cover the whole body workout...

there is no conditioning quite like it........controled ground work drills and your cardio will go through the roof.. it conbines cardio wiht strenght training and you dont get that in other disciplines..
good luck

Buy your own gloves coz theres nowt so nasty as the smell of your mitts after they're covered in someone else's stinky old sweat. Also a skipping rope coz we do some great skipping circuits that include press-ups, medicine balls and loads of stuff.

Yep boxing's a great idea and it's a cheap option. My local gym costs 50p a session and is open from 5 till 8pm.
