The bag should be okay, although I prefer one that has higher centre of gravity and where lenses fit laterally rather than in a big "cooler" side by side.
Check your insurance policy for breakage and fall hard at the end of the hols. New camera.

New to what - photography or snowboarding?

Nothing wrong with any of the Lowe Pro range. Also check the crumpler equivalents. You may want to consider the Burton Zoom and the Dakine Sequence. Both are bigger than that, but more technical and focused on snowboards.

If you're planning to ride and shoot, things are different. For back country/ general mountain most people use a chest pack rather than a back pack as you can shoot without taking your pack off. If you are planning to shoot from a pack, consider that the LowePro bags have to be put down "on their backs", which is the wrong way around for snow.

You don't really need much "protection" for your camera when boarding. If you fall over when riding then you probably shouldn't be carrying large cameras; if you don't fall over then you just need something to carry it around really.

Here's some BS on the sequence.

And here's an image of the LowePro TLZ 75 (or something like that) chest pack in action a year or two back:
