Theres nothing in them to be honest. Ive never used that particular model, however I use Iomega external products regularly and dont have too many probs with them.
The only bit of input I can offer is that with external HDD's expect anything up to 20% of discrepency in reported and actual disk space. You can also get into a bit of bother with this with USB (probably the same with firewire however) that when you boot up your PC, the FAT reports the discrepency and causes a scan disk. Ive lost files this way so be careful! |

Not really used external drives like that myself, but looking at them they both sound good!
I think the LaCie one sounds good to me mate, plus it's Firewire (I take it you have got Firewire on your pc )
Cheers

Right - Another (hopefully final) quick bit of advice needed.
Sorting out the external HDD this week and have pretty much narrowed it down to either Iomega or LaCie 160GB drives.
The LaCie one would be handier being Firewire as that port is always free but I've never heard of them so wanted to check..

Q,
as far as I'm aware, if you are running Windows I'd say it would be fine, as it would detect the hardware changes, etc.
Not really done that much with it to be honest, we use it to build our new clients at work, but they are all the same spec, etc & if we do get a different spect we just create a new image- but that is only a driver update.
Let me know if I can be of any more help & I'll do my best to help
Cheers

Timay,
Ghost tutorial with the package is rubbish....
I will try it myelf when I get a few different disks, motherboards etc but do you know if the 'clone' of my C drive that I put onto another HD and put into another machine will work?? or is it dependant on the HAL - IE is it dependant on the machines all having the same spec?
Cheers,

This is well off the track but...
Does anyone have specific experience of images/snapshot tools. At work we use zenworks but I am looking to create an image of a fresh install of XP, Office 2003 and McAfee Anti-Virus from my PC at home. I would then bung it on a computer when I require it!
Have looked at Norton Ghost but would appreciate any thought out there.
Cheers,

| They're in the same column as the unread posts - you just have to read enough to see the unread ones. Of course you can alter your prefs in your user profile so only certain types of threads show up in there which can help de-clutter things! |

Ahhh,
Definately no unread posts.
I don't have read threads under the unread ones but that may be beacuase I do not view all that many threads so the list will only contain unread ones if that makes any sense??
Anyway, time to work,
Q.

Are you definately sure there's not some unread posts lurking somewhere, maybe a few pages back? It's happened to me before..
And are you sure you're not getting read threads listed underneath?! Once the number of unread threads goes down they should appear underneath the unreads in the same panel, just black instead of blue (am I being too simplistic?! )
If all else fails, Ctrl+ F5 solves everything.. |
