with 40x you're going to be f'ing steady or have a tripod. When are you going to need more than 25x?

Optical zoom
22/03/2008 @ 03:17:54
heard many of you guy's mention optical zoom as the important factor as opposed to digital zoom
many of these threads are a couple of years old and tech has moved on a lot with most Mini DV cams having as much a 40x optical zoom.........my question is...how much do you really need?? is there such thing has having too much?.....some of the higher grade sony's for example drop the optical zoom right down compared to the lower level cams? is there a reason for this?
i ask coz i was looking at the sony handycam HC51 (this has 40x optical zoom, but no stills function) however the upgrade sony handycam HC62, has the stills function and a few more interesting fuctions besides, but only a 25x optical zoom? can anyone shed any light as to why that may be?
oh p.s sorry...........any one know if the sony handycam has 3 chip (3CCD) or 1??
thanks
Andy.
