No I'm the dumbass.

Edit: Last edging I did was 7 months ago and couldn't think back that far, although I did read some online guides before doing it.

Dumb question. If you've got less than 90 on the sidewall, won't that give you more grip & easier to catch an edge? Do you mean 88 on the base edge?

I've got 2 boards, although 1's a bit damaged. So I'm thinking of changing the edges on 1 for the dome.

Depends on the angle you want. Base edge I always do 90 on whatever board. On my mountain board I do 90 on the side edge, but on my mess around board I do 88 so it's forgiving if I want to try a box or rail.

Edit: Discount above, me being dumb and forgetting what I did/do.

Thanks FB.

I've noticed tool that do 90, but this one only does 89 & 88 then. Is it still the right tool then?

Think the 1 degree will be the same as 89 and 2 degree same as 88.

Don't dull your edges for the dome as you can't put metal back on. Just don't sharpen them until you go away.

Its very easy to take metal off but its a one-way process. As for noticing any difference young jib monkey is right - even taking the base edge from the factory 0 to 1 is noticeable with less tendency catch. Sides for your average rider should be 89.

Read this before you wreck your edges.

Can I interupt this thread. I'm looking to buy all the kit for servicing my board. Now I've found Dr D'd website & the egde tool refers to the angles differently. Am I right in assuming the below angles are ok.

'A single tool to sharpen and bevel side & base edges. File included. Precise side angles at 1° & 2°. Side angle at 1°. Works on all ski and snowboards.'

My plan is to keep the edges dull for the dome. Then when I go on my hols sharpen them up. I want to make sure I get this all right. As I've been nominated as the team tech for doing our boards before the hols.

Thanks

im on about the flat side of the edge not the corner . if you wanna see if your edges are still sharp yeh do the finger nail scraping thing but thats not what im talkign about.

either way thats personal prefrence i use underside of my finger and run it along smoothly not gonna kill me or anything if i feel a bur lol.

QUOTE (JibMonkey - 11/04/2008 @ 15:32:43)

once al the burs are gone and you can run your finger across the edge smoothly without it catching on anything

Wouldn't recommend that, edges, even bluntish ones, can be sharp. You want to use your finger NAIL if anything.

well thats what i always do my edges to 90 degrees every time.
edging is very easy also just get your static angle edge tool and some diamond stones theres 3 or 4 different types which are all dependent on the colour.
you use these to remove burs on the edge's , once al the burs are gone and you can run your finger across the edge smoothly without it catching on anything you use the static edge tool you run that back and forth a good few times until the edges are nice and sharp

i did my edges 3 times this season dont wanna do it as regular as waxing as your board have edges for very long lol.

JibMonkey could you give me some tips how to explore the world of angle tuning?

theres a huge difference most riders wouldnt manage certain angles.

as for rail riders they need to grind all the edges down but it helps.
