Revision #1 (Last edited: 11/01/2010 @ 19:30:40)
Hello,
Im Tony! First day here......please be gentle...... OK, have been invited on my first snow holiday! Im generally more into my watersports, Kayaking, Windsurfing, Kite surfing and land sports such as powerkiting, mountainboarding, skateboarding etc.. Come 1st Feb im gonna be getting freaky in Bulgaria with some snowboarding friends! Ive booked a few lessons at my local dryslope and intend on getting a day course at a snowy slope (don't wanna use a day of my holiday when i can get it done before hand!)... i guess my real question is regarding kit.. i don't wanna go out and buy my own board / bindings / boots just yet, so far all i've invested in is a Quiksilver 10k/10k shell jacket and some quiksilver 10k pants (yeah, you guessed it - local Quiksilver shop!), i'm gonna be needing some base layer stuff, socks, goggles (or sunnies with a headstrap like Salice / Dirty Dog styleeee.... kinda veering towards the Salice ones tho)... any advice on what i'll be needing? lens colour etc.. Have been to a few shops and i think they're more interested in making the sale rather than providing good info.. neck warmers, hat, helmet?... Also, another question regarding my new jacket / pants.... the lable says Quiktech material / fully taped seams... does this stuff need waterproofing? Can i use my lovely new things on the dry slope without them getting damaged / scratched (i think the dry slope is bristly!). Also, this may sound like a daft question but how much stuff will i need to take with me for 7 snowy days... i reckon im gonna be getting pretty sweaty / wet etc.. how many changes of 'base layer' would be advisable.... any other 'must have, must take bits..? basically any info you can offer (based on your own experiences preferably) would be greeeeeat! Cheers!

Welcome ...dont risk your new stuff on any dryslope, goggles everytime over sun glasses , but take some for when your in town etc , goggle lenses will need lense for bright light and one for overcast / dull days riding , stuff/ gear shouldnt need waterproofoing unless its crap gear ..and qwiksilver isnt , helmet is a good idea , all the rest is all dependant on how hot /cold you r in general

Which Bulgarian resort are you heading too ?

Good luck , have fun and keep smiling

Bulgaria is good for cheap gear , but alot of fake gear , but fopr neck warmers etc wouldlnt matter

A good set of base layer will last you a week

You quicksilver gear doesn't need waterproofing, taped seams means water won't seep in. Goggles, try Annon, good quality without the price tag or steptoes.co.uk have oakleys at reduced prices, best to try them on first tho.

I'd also recommend impact shorts and wrist guards. TK Max have good cheap base layers and gloves.

Enjoy your trip.

You do Kitesurfing, Landboarding and Skateboarding?
You'll be a natural.

Have fun in the snow mate. But be prepared to have to shell out for snow trips every year, because once you pop...
Wait for me at the bottom.

Good luck dude!

You'll enjoy MK a lot more than places like Knockhatch... (assuming that's the dryslope you were going to...)

Yo! last post before i jet off to Borovets on Sat! MK Sno-zone was wicked! Soooo much easier than the dryslope at Knockhatch! Awesome instruction (Lee), awesome people in my group and 8 hours later i walk away with my ticket having mastered all the activities (and a slightly bruised bum!). Need a bit more practice on my linked turns but hey, time will tell! Really looking forward to my hol..... laters!
