A shoutbox on the side of the page might be a useful solution, its like a sort of 'write on the wall' app that sits neatly on the side of the page for example - below the 'your contacts' box.
here anyone can chat back and forth about somthing that isnt quite worthy of a thread.

Yeh I've only got 31 posts. No I didn't complain about lack of community spirt - you're putting words in my mouth chap...

Why have a feedback section if you don't want feedback - even from lowlifes with a low post count. Surely first impressions are important are they not?

Anyway - it was not my intention to offend or suggest that there is something lacking from your (our?) forum - just to give an honest and straightforward opinion.

globalhead, you have made some good and fair points but keeping the threads on track is not an easy job at times. Quite often a lot of the fun/personal banter posts are left for a while then moderated later but its important not to lose the point of the thread and after moderation it must all still flow and make sense.
I think that the moderation is now quite light on Goneboarding and on the whole it seems to be working quite well.
wildebeest, dont worry about getting beaten up next week but any bother from you and you may find a lot of your posts disappearing !!

Just accept it. 31 posts and you're complaining about a lack of community spirit already. You say "it's only one page of drivel"..I personally get bored when it is "just one page of drivel" on every flippin' thread you read... see where I'm coming from?

I actually think there is a really strong community and moderation is spot on. No I'm not a mod, but I am going on holiday with two of them and I don't want to get beaten up.

Fair comment, but actually I am a member of other sites where there is no moderation, and yes - there are fools out there, but I do beleive that allowing threads to grow organically (within reason) can be beneficial and add something to overall atmosphere. You musn't have a lot of patience if you get bored over a few posts - what are we talking here - a page at most?

Non-moderation can lead to cliqueyness and offensive posting, but that wasn't really what was hapenning there in all honesty was it. The thing about wee'ing on your frozen bindings is a funny picture and on topic ain't it

This topic may have come up before, but the measureof any forum - on any subject - imho is the ability to constantly change and adapt to prevent it getting stale. I looked through a few previous pages before starting this thread to see if it had been brought up, and it didn't seem to have been recently. Hence its worth bringing up I reckon...

Anyways - I don't want to get into a row about it, this is the feedback section and I communicated what I felt... End of.

Cheers,

Dave.

globalhead,

the modding policy on this site has been discussed many times (do a search if you like). It is now much more lax then it used to be and most people now feel that the mods do a brilliant job at keeping threads on track.

It can be slightly annoying, I know, when a funny conversation you've been having disappears but you have to realise that most of the users who weren't involved probably don't really want to read it.

I started to read that thread and gave up because of all the off-topic posts.

If you look at sites that don't mod you will see where it all ends up - I think we can all agree we don't want to go there.

I don't get chance to mod much these days - but i've just taken a look at one of the threads you highlighted - "Beginners and helmets".

You can't argue against that modding - it was completely justified.

The modding was also done several hours after your banter - so you got to have your fun and it was then cleaned up later in the day.

For a potential noobie searching on google and finding that post hoping to learn about helmets - they'd have to wade through several pages of pointless banter before they got to the information they were looking for.

It's worth noting banter off topic is not modded. But for boarding related threads it is - this is a information resource after all.

Hi There...

First - just want to say, great site. Excellent place to discuss all things boarding related and it seems like there is a good cameraderie between the regulars etc. Reckon I'll be here to stay..

One thing though, I know I'm new to the site and all, and the last thing I would want to do is stir up trouble.. but over the last couple of days I've noticed a very strict (dare I say it - slightly an*l) moderation policy on the forum. There have been a couple of threads - namely the ones regarding "beginners and helmets" and "frozen binding ratchets" where the discussion has wandered around the subject with some humourous posts as well as those directly relating to the subject in hand.

I don't think anything that was posted in there was particularly riske or offensive (and it was all entirely tongue in cheek anyway), yet in both instances whole sections of posts were deleted by admin.

I understand that threads are supposed to relate to the subject in hand, but surely secondary to finding out factual information on a subject people come to internet forums to kill a little time and be entertained. So long as no-one is offended and nothing decends into personal insults and/or arguements whats the harm in a little friendly banter?

What say you moderators?

Dave
