but it's strange that even their reduced prices are around £20 more than everywhere else

not sure how that would entice people in?

Should've checked out the Filarinkis stand! They're doing an earlybird offer on 2009 boards. 10% off, free bag and tool.
Check out their website cos they're doing free delivery too, just say you were at the show and missed them!

It's been heading that way for years. Used to be lots of independants (selling last year's gear for a steal, or the odd bargain bundle of this year's gear) but now it's more of an event than a bargain-shopping opportunity. Which is fine, but annoying if you're not expecting it. I actually really like the entertainment, and seeing this year's gear... but I also like shopping for bargians, and those little gadget shops selling weird stuff you can't find anywhere else... Can't we have both? That upstairs section had some space...

Anyone go to the NEC? Is that the place for bargains now?

Not really odd, just they're corporate policy's...

I refuse to buy anything of much value (over £100) from Snow and Rock or Tresspass or indeed TSA (sorry guys) as I know I can get it a better price and in some cases better service from an indie..

As i keep saying, they dont NEED to discount, they sell out at full price, its basic economics. They have a much higher profile and more stores so dont need to work for peoples custom like the independents do.

Having not done any research before going there I wouldn't have known that a small discount was the stuff of dreams.

In actual fact I've been waiting for my board to arrive at a local independant for over a month now and will continue to. I will buy it at rrp and feel happy that I have lined somebody elses pockets.

I would have been tempted to buy other gear like clothing from either had they discounted slightly, but they didn't. So they lost my business on all fronts, pretty much like they did with climbing gear.

They seem not to be able to discount, where as other much smaller companies can..... Odd?!?

The reason they dont give discount on brand new stuff is that they know they can shift it at full price. For every person like you who refuses to buy stuff as its not discounted there will be plenty who will. There are only so many copies of each model in the country each year and pretty much all of them sell out at full price. Theres a very interesting thread on SCUK about lack of TSA discounts in general. Jeremy Sladen who runs it came on to explain in their defence that the mark up and profit margin on snowboards is very small, offering a disocount before the season has even started is commericial suicide. I was talking to the snowboard buyer from Snow and Rock last week and he said the same. Its been well publicised that the shops at the show dont offer discount so its slightly odd to go there expecting one and moan when they wont give it to you.

There was 50% off all gear in Trespass on Sunday (not sure if that was going on everyday).

I think it would be nice to see some discounts even if they were small or just useful incentives such as a free mag suscription or something guessing S&N or EB would be able to hook up something like that.

We felt as it was our first show we had to offer discounts also because we didn't have the product there for people to take away in hand. Perhaps the bigger retailers didnt think they would have to bother with that since you can take stuff away in hand.

I didn't warm to the fashion show but thought the kicker displays were excellent so a thumbs up to the people that organised that

I'll tell you why I think they should offer discount! Because people have made the effort to travel and make such events possible. If it wasn't for the likes of us paying £9 each, and supporting such shows, then S&N and EB wouldn't have such a huge presence.

Also I went there with ideas of buying at least 1 if not 2 boards, a set of bindings, 2 jackets, a helmet, impact shorts, and gloves.

That would be:

£230 and maybe £530
£130
£150
£100
£65
£50
£75
-----

Thats £725 and maybe £1025!!

So why shoud I get a maybe 5% discount???? Cos I'm spending a sh*t load of cash.... and have spent a way more on climbing gear with the likes of S&N!!! All I got in reply to my questions on show discount was that there is none - full stop! I could however get some awful-looking plastic bindings for an extra £30 with the board I want to purchase.

Why is it if you go to a motorbike show, you can get discount??

Yes the jump ramp and boarders/skiers were very impressive, but that is not my gripe.

Have to agree with Nick there. It is a shame there aren't many bargains to be had, but some of the other stuff was pretty cool.

I have to say I loved the fashion show - really entertaining. I thought the dancers were awesome particularly the tall blond And the BBoy guys in the corner were really good when they got going.. although they seemed to need a big crowd to get them going, so were a little inconsistent. I only saw one of the kicker displays - the Whitelines vs Dark Summer Jam - and really enjoyed that. All the riders got dressed up in outfits towards the end and still managed to do some pretty tasty work... even the guy in the big yeti outfit was pulling backflips - pretty damn impressive I reckon!

Anyway, I guess you've got to be in the right place at the right time to see the good stuff.

Do you people not listen, there were so many thread about this ages before saying there would be no show discount, all stuff would be full price except old stuff, its brand new why would they discount it??!! Also it amazes me how all people want is something for nothing, there is more than just shops there! Not a single person has mentioned the riding, the kicker, the comps the demos....all we go on about is buying gear, is it any wonder british snowboarders get labeled as only caring about gear??!! Some people put allot of effort into arranging those demos, building that jump, getting all the riders there and trying to entertain the people...yet all everyone does is moan about not getting discounts on brand new stuff. Ok im biast as those people who did that organisation mentioned above are my friends...but still, it amazed me how many negative comments you get, no one ever has a good thing to say, makes you wonder why we bother!

Sorry rant over just drives me mad, i know its October and dark and miserable outside but come on, us Brits are such moaners!!!!

Save your money.

TSA and S+R have huge stands, but everything is normal RRP, and the indies mainly just bring old stock, or new stuff at RRP.

You might get a pair of socks or something if you sp*nk 200 notes on some boots, but with the 10 or 12 quid entry, you're not actually getting them 'free'.

Well don't say you weren't warned.

The fashion show looked like something off Zoolander when they do the dance off. But Zoolander is so much better

Wasnt really feeling the "fashion show" either it was pretty lame lol.

After hearing that show about 50 times over the week I have to agree although the dancing did improve as the week went on...however so did the amount of smoke they were pumping out

One night the girls on the sports bra stand opposite us were in histerics as I banged my head on the floor.

..... I had been holding off for ages, and intended to part with quite a bit of money... But when I got there and saw that the two big stores were running the show I was pretty disappointed! I asked in both what the point was in bringing all this stock and selling it at rrp?!?! The answer was that they just wanted to show off all of the coming season goodies in one place. Isn't that exactly what they do in/on their catalogues and websites?? Maybe it's just me, and the fact that I have 3 S&N's and 1 EB with 15 minutes walk....

Highlight of my show was the beer-tasting event at £5, and throwing bean-bags at snow men.
