yeah i know what you mean, when i read the book I didnt think the concept of opposing pressure was explained well either. If you're going away get a lesson for an hour or two so someone can explain stuff in a better way and they can watch you and see where you may be going wrong. x

Did you get a wider board? I hope so, because no technique will help you if you have overhang.
Try a wider board and go back to basics on your turns, without complicating it with other techniques maybe?

Let me try to explain best I can.
As you are traversing across the slope on your heel edge(assuming you ride regular). When your just about to start your toe edge turn your board will be flat for a instant you move the pressure from point A which will be the start of the effective edge on your rear foot to the front heel edge and past to the effective edge contact at the front of the board. Then by rolling the outside of your front foot round in a clock wise direction till your pressuring the the start of the effective edge on your toe side to initiate the start of you turn. The amount of time you hold this position depends on whether you do a short or long radius turn. But basically you start your edge turn as you are traversing across the slope you will not catch the edge because you are travelling across the slope not down the slope.

Mcnab pressure control system

Ok, i've just been given a Mcnab snowboarding dvd and i'm getting confused about opposing pressure - can anybody help!!
Basically, I usually have some problems when doing toeside turns (no doubt a hangover of when I learnt - I had a regular width board and size 11 boots so kept catching my toe edge!). The dvd says that when you're doing a toeside turn you put your board onto the fall line, then put pressure on the front of the foot of your leading foot and use opposing pressure in your back foot to help control the turn!!! Does this mean that you lift the front of your back foot to torsionally twist the board or does it mean something else?!?!?!
I'm off to MK in a week or so to test this out but wondered whether anybody knows?
