as a beginner i got really good and cheap trespass kit. £9 for trousers and £12 for a jacket both trespass from TK Maxx, for a week away as a beginner you can't go wrong with that kind of kit and i had no probs with waterproofyness.

Defo worth the rummage, some good deals to be had, but a lot of rubbish there too. Got a nice pair of Helly Hanson pants for £30 last year, some of the Nike stuff this year looks a good buy too. You might evem be lucky and pick up some Columbia gear.

Beware of jackets in particular that say ' breathable and waterproof' they usually aren't once you've been riding for any longer than half an hour and you'll end up uncomfortably cold and wet.

I made the mistake of buying a ' breathable and waterproof' Dare2Be jacket which was like boarding in a bin liner, ditched that for a so called ' breathable and waterproof' Trespass jacket for my next holiday which wasn't much better, dropped both of at a charity shop and grudgingly handed over £200 smacks for an o'neill jacket ' 10,000 breathable and 20,000waterproof' Well worth the cash, can board all day and be bone dry at the end of it.

So, would suggest to anyone buying a jacket to look for how breathable and how waterproof the jacket is, mimimum 5000 for each.... the higher the rating the better.

£60 for a good looking jacket may seem a bargain in a shop , it won't seem like that when your sitting on a chairlift and your sweat is beginning to chill on your skin !

Hope this helps

Got myself 2 pairs of boarder pants by Helly hanson and Surfonic ( never heard of Surfonic but the gear was top spec!). Also got a dare2be jacket for me mate. £60 for both pants and £35 for the jacket. Proper mint. Also got a pair of pipe looking gloves by rossignal for £20 and a set of thermals for £15.
That was all from the TKMaxx in Derby. Moved back to Gateshead and the TKMaxx in newcastle is also full of good stuff. The racks keep getting fuller and fuller. The quality is also getting better all the time. at one time Trespass was the best they had ( not knocking trespass, they saw me through my 1st 3 holidays and loads of snowdome sessions ) variety is also improving. They've obviously realised they're onto a winner with snowgear and have a decent purchasing team doing the rounds. Keep up the good work

I must say TKMaxx is absolutely mint and make snowboarding a lot more affordable for us peasents

I am going to give this TK Maxx a go, i must admit to the snobbery, but after finding out that decent kit can be found i'm there.

Does anyone know what the one in Norwich has?

No doubt lots of farming overalls, straw hats and John Deere embossed clothing.

The scarfs I've seen were ok, and obviously at bargain prices, but nothing to write home about.

With tk maxx the best thing to do to see what they have is to go into your local store as they change there stock so often and its very hard to say what they have at a certain time to be honest.

Could do with new pants. And read somewhere that TKMaxx have some nice Vivienne Westwood scarfs that I want one of.
