Cross trainers are good for anything that requires good general fitness I've found. Then you want a good combination of strength exercises incorporating core strength stuff like the plank, crunches etc and leg strength stuff like squats etc.
Balances boards are excellent if you know how to use them to the best effect. Try doing press ups with your hands on one or passing a medicine ball between your legs when your balancing. I heard sex is pretty good for you too |

Haha you could do but if you're straining it's probably time to end the conversation so I'd just tell them that you're dropping the kids off at the aqua park, that should finish things off nicely if you catch my drift |

So when the person on the other end says, "Are you straining?" you say "I'm just doooooooooing my lactic acid tolerance exercises" |

You have to build your lactic acid tolerance. That's what causes your legs to burn if you're wondering. One magazine suggested that whilst on the phone, assume the squat position and hold it for the length of the conversation. I suppose you could slowly flex your legs as you're talking. Not such a good idea if you have the ability to talk a glass eye to sleep though |

Sounds stupid but getta skipping rope it's great for your cardio...
Also if they've got them at your gym get on a bosu you can use them for everything but do squats on them and it's great for your balance. |

I cycle to work every day, it's a 9 mile round trip. I always thought of it as commuting rather than keeping fit, so I'm pretty chuffed to hear that you all think it's keeping me in good shape for boarding! Here's a couple of others to throw in the mixing pot:
- Trampolining. It's great for core strength, and you learn how to make silly shapes in the air! That's more useful than it sounds, especially if you're looking at doing freestyle stuff. - Judo. You build up great stamina (more than anything else I've tried), and you have to do lots of squats with people on your back, so it's good for leg strength too.
And, in both cases, if you join a good club you get to practise your lager skills with like-minded individuals afterwards |
