There are enough pistes on Niseko that you can avoide the pow if you really want to.

There are 3 main "resorts"...Annupuri offers some nice mellow long runs you lap on a gondala (and enjoy the hot chocolate in a can you can buy from the vending machines...and the noodle place is great for lunch!)...Higashiyama tends not to get as busy and Hirafu offes lots and lots of mellow tree runs but can get really busy.

Niseko on the whole is faily gentle - so should be fine in those terms - but it can also be a pow haven - so if you're not used to the deep stuff, you might find it testing.

I took some friends of mine who were fairly new to snowboarding to a pow laden resort in Japan (Shiramine in Ishikawa ken) and they didn't enjoy that much, because they fell over in the pow, and then it took them about 20 mins to dig themselves out.

I, on the underhand, was loving it!

How does Niseko rate for someone (me!) who hasn't been boarding for a looooooong time and wants to get back into it. Yes I'm still a beginner I guess but want to spend my money wisely when planning my winter hols. Ta much.
