| Just a word of warning to anyone looking into getting jobs in the US for the first time this Winter. Whilst the resort can offer you a job and sponsor your visa, the visa situation for next Winter is far from secure. I am one of thousands crossing their fingers for next Winter but the official line from Vail at least is that they are expecting the visa cap to be reached before they can even send their applications in. Unfortunately, due to it being an election year, congress don't want to touch the legisation due to it being an immigration issue and potentially harming election campaigns. |

Hi,
That's what I did when I applied for my job. Go to the resort websites and they all have Employment sections. May is the best time to start applying.
You might be better off trying some of the smaller resorts. most of the bigger West Coast resorts require AASI level 2 or equivalent, and in my experience, although BASI tell you that the Instructor qualification is an equivalent the Americans don't consider it as such.
I ended up working at a place called Stratton in Vermont. They take BASI level 2 instructors, and the excepted my shadowing at Tamworth as a seasons experience because I did it over a whole summer. Make sure you get a reference from the people you shadowed with that you can give to them.
Stratton isn't a big mountain, but it is the home of snowboarding, as that is where Jake Burton tested and developed his first snowboards, it was the only mountain that allowed him to use a snowboard at the time. Also the snowboard school was the first one anywhere in the world, so it's been established for over 20 years. I know a few people there still, and know the right people to email, so if you want to PM me I can put you in touch. One of my friends also recruits instructors for US resorts from the UK, so I can put you in touch with him as well.
It is an awesome place to work, even though it is small and on the east coast. The parks they build are amazing too. They usually have at least 3 parks, and always build a half pipe. Plus it's where the Burton US Open takes place each year, so you can rock over and watch that when you're not working. You may even be able to wangle a job working the Open if you're lucky.

| i see all these jobs ask for at least 1 years experience, any chance we can count our shadowing hours on our gap courses as a seasons experience? |

very simple indeed. i did this around march got replys back from several resort found out when they start recruiting etc who sponsors who doesnt etc which qualifications there after 
easiest way sod recruiting websites and all that crap. |

It's not difficult. Chose resorts you want to work at and then look them up on the internet and fire off e-mails to their board/ski schools. It's not rocket science now is it.

| Well basically get on the websites and get the contact info for the offices there, never a bad place to start, they can at least advise you where to go if you contact the wrong people. |

see im bullshit at finding stuff like this, i search snowboard instructor jobs in google and all i get is 'instructor course' this and 'gap course' that

I would probably start with contacting the main centres themselves and asking about availability etc.
Have you ever been to Lake Tahoe? They've got several of areas there, might be worth looking there if you want to go stateside. Start with Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood for the better areas to be.

Hey Guys,
i was just wondering its getting near ... well is the end of the season and i was thinking about trying to fix myself up with a job next season, but well where the hell do i start, where do you guys apply or look for jobs, im thinking either america or back to switzerland or somewhere in europe as ive heard canada are done with visa for next season unless youre a student. anyhoo any help would be great.
