| You might be asked what sort of riding you're into but as your starting out it will be difficult to predict what you will like. A lot of riders only get to go away a couple of weeks a season so opt for a board that can conquor any terrain...not too difficult to find one as most boards are capable of that (unless you go for something totally specific ie Burton Fish). Just out of interest...is anyone going for the Burton ICS/EST system this season? |

there's plenty of decent shops around bro..like everyone's said...ask loads of questions until your brain has been quenched! Try on as many boots as you can....but you'll probly be looking for something fairly softish as you don't weigh alot and just starting out. You'll know when they fit...and they will break in after a while. There's so many boards on the market aimed at rider's starting out your spoilt for choice. If you have been bitten by the boarding bug then go for something that you can progress with and something that's a good all-rounder. The Forum Recon (to name but one) is an amazing board that will stomp anything. I've owned a few of these and would really reccommend it. Just pop into your local shop and they should point you in the right direction...good luck bro! |

i like subvert!..........well apart from the fact i wandered in with my mate and my better half just for a look last saturday and somehow a set of new bindings found there way onto my board , the mrs left with some burton board trousers and my mate demo'd a board and half an hour later actually bought the demo board!!
......they are far too nice and its far too easy to leave significantly poorer yet happier! |

p.s. also - you will need to think about what type of riding you want to be using your board for - e.g. powder, freestyle, park stuff as it can help determine the length and flex, etc, of the board that suits you best... im going to whistler next feb, so for my first board (i only started boarding in april) i got a burton feather which have been recommended to me by a few people as a good beginners board that also wont get boring... other recommendations are ride rapture and rome vinyl...
lots to think about!! good luck! keep us posted! |

Hi!!
I got all my stuff from Subvert at Chillfactore in Manchester - brilliant!! The guy, Joe, spent ages going through what board would suit me, best bindings and boots. In total, it was prob about 3 hours, including after the store shut!! I was a total beginner and didn't have a clue - literally, all I'd done was a 50 min taster session, but it didn't matter. Plus, they make every boarder feel like part of a giant family!! If you're local, I would defo recommend going in - I'm there all the time now, even just sitting on the couch watching the dvds with my SnoFamily!! lol |

Hi I had a few lessons last year then a week in the mountains in March. I wasn't very good! Last night I went for refresher lessons at MK and had the most fantastic instructor - and it all clicked into place. Lots of turns and no crashing. This is what I've been waiting for and now I'm more hooked than ever. I'd like to buy my own board and boots and need some advice please. I'm 5ft 5in, weigh nine and a half stone with size 5 feet. Which make and size would you suggest? I usually get given a 148cm but last night used a 150cm. Does the width matter? My friend has a ROME board which looks cool. Can you get them in small sizes and where from? Where is the best place to buy boards? Thanks guys. |
