I drove around Oz 7 years ago and past a few mines out in WA, Kalgoorlie/Boulder and stayed there for a night.

Ahh ye, good idea not staying there longer than a night Though Kalgoorlie is slightly more lively than most outback towns.

The big dollars are up in the north-west, fly-in fly out work, basic work pretty boring though. Tom Price if you went anywhere near there or Port Hedland?

PNP advised me 14 weeks and it took 14 weeks to the day I handed in my application.
I have a dream, and im living it, never give up on them!

As someone has already said without a job offer there is no point applying, with a job offer your 10 points up. you may be interested in www.britishexpats.com a forum for well.. british expats emmigrating to Oz, Canada etc...

I'm starting to dislike someone around here!!!

The mine money is in West Oz and QLD. You have to work shift in some pretty rubbish players but most people are well above $100 000 for driving a truck. Most of them then head to Japan if in West Oz or North America if in QLD. They also get a week off a month or whatever the contract is to go exploring or NZ or Aus ski fields so it isnt so bad. Although for easier work there was a recent story in the local rag about backpackers earning $1400 a week doing simple tasks like waiters etc.

Applying to emigrate to Canada without a job offer is a long process (48 months processing time last time I looked though I believe, following recent targeting of UK workers, they're trying/promising to speed it up)..

MUCH quicker to get a job offer then apply under the Provincial Nominee Program (12 weeks processing in BC at the mo) but you need to have skills & experience (only 1 year required) that they need and where they don't have a local supply of labour..

How to get a job offer?.. Get over there and call up companies direct.. Blag yourself a meeting/interview and sell yourself..

I have a dream too...unfortunately I've got my sights set on Canada, and I don't get enough points for entry so can't apply to emigrate...

however I'm not going to let that stop me, this is what I want to do and somehow I'm sure an opportunity will present itself... I just have to be patient.

anyone out there under 30 don't forget you can get a BUNAC visa if you want to go to AUS, CA or USA.

I'm with you Stuey!

I've been working for the last eight years, moving my way up the corporate ladder. For most of that time I've been wanting to go away for the season, but the only thing stopping me has been a job that I'd be crazy to give up... it turns out that that job has now gone a bit sour and it's not what it used to be, so I'm giving up the London grind and moving to the mountains (for a year and a half at least). I'm starting out by working for a chalet, then just seeing what comes up and whether I can make a life of it. Here's hoping!!! Anything's got to be better than London in my opinion!

It's was a pretty damn scary decision to make, but I'm past the point of worrying. I'm just going to go out and have fun, and see what comes of it.

Ouch, 8-7 sucks!

It probably sounds like your best bet is to go contracting during the summer after your required 5 years experience.

Contractors usually get paid better, so if you save enough, you may be able to contract for 6 months as Lez says, and ride a full season each year.

Another option is to win the lottery, shove it in a high interest account, live off the interest and then you can board all year round at various resorts arounbd the world

Keep the dream alive Stuey! I'm currently saving my ass off to move to Canada to do the same in a couple of years
Immigration forms have been sent off and brushing up on my French(extra points on the application!) and doing as much prep work as possible.
Where abouts were you looking to go? Had any ideas?

Touche Lez! Not that i do it but a couple of my mates do 6 months working on the mines here in Oz earning large amounts of money then they take that money up to Japan for 6 months.

But will it make you content/happy?
